I am a geeky programming type. But I am still very green on my training wheels as far as trading goes. Am I any good to you ? I will be interested in very fast results. After my last job/association with a trader, I have no interest in shooting in the dark for more than a couple of months.

Not if it involves my paying money up front. For me to put in my money, I need to see the beef first.

No need to send any money - will PM you - more of a joint effort costing as little time and money as possible

Yes well that idea bit the "dust ".
Pity but then trying is the thing !

Another idea is say you live in a town called X
Well, get anyone interested ( not the violent troublemaker sort ) and start a club called "Friends of X " or something along those lines. Then do things that attract welcome interest to that town. Have a town X ragtime band for instance. Anyone who can play an instrument, even dustbin lids can join. Then parade around the town on occasions "playing " music.
Pally up with local schools, cadets, council, etc. to do things of interest !!
Especially good for unemployed, pensioners etc. Meet lots of people you never knew existed etc.

That's a really weird trading idea Pat.

I have been thinking along the lines of whether or not to have a trading partner actually in the same room.
Very often an alternative viewpoint is beneficial and it would probably help reinforce "good practices".
The problem of living in a country area would be finding someone tho ! Whether to
1. offer a sort of job to a youngster
2. Try and get a local friend to participate and risk losing said friend
3. or what

Any views ?

Its not something I'd particularly want to do, I even find participating in trading chat rooms quite problematic. Its pricesely because the final succes or failure is down to me alone that I find trading so rewarding. I dont even want to hear the opinions of traders that I socialise with. I just find its noise that I dont need.

Despite being quite confident in my own abilities, I've always found in the past that when I made money working as part of a management team, there was always that nagging doubt in the back of my mind if the success really was down to me, or perhaps due to other team members. Trading stips all of that uncertainty away, and it intensifies the highs and lows in a way that I find particularly satisfying.

I supose you could argue that I might make more by partnering with others, and whilst that's certainly true, I'm not sure I'd like to lose that absolute certainty that the outcome of any particular years results is entirely due to my skill, and/or luck, rather than someone elses.

My 2¢: I don't trust anyone’s opinion but my own so there is no way I could work with someone else. If you don’t have that level of confidence in your own figuring then I reckon you shouldn’t be trading.

I agree with you, but when I was prop trading US equities I found it helpful to have others in the trading room whenever I decided to trade at the desk rather than remote. I saw it as an extra pair of eyes, traders finding different stocks that had opportunity in them. Sure I never blindly traded without doing my own assessment but at times when the stocks I was looking at were lifeless , someone always seemed to find something else I could look at. Of course there was a certain amount of noise but that never really distracted me much.

I like going on forums and getting the 'net's vibe about what's hot and what's not. The most I would probably do with others is to discuss trade ideas and bounce info around.

Ultimately, I think the trade needs to be an individual decision. I don't think I'd ever make a trade I haven't personally gotten a "feel" for, or else I'd be blindsided since I didn't do my homework.

I can only echo what NT and hare have said. I trade better when alone and thinking for myself. I use this forum, very occassionally Arabian's STIR chatroom and sporadically tweet with EJ and TD. For me that's like popping round to somebody's house for a cup of tea for 20mins before I get back home to get on with work.

My advice for loneliness is get a dog. Obviously Pete has his parrot - need I say more?

Sound idea imho - have a dog. No offence taken.

I'm glad you took it on face value - I was being serious. I find taking him out gets me away from the desk, clears head, distraction, etc and then having him around when it's quiet is pleasant too.

Forums and chat rooms can be could for canvasing views but I would never let others help me make a trading decison....or any other decision for that matter

If I had loads of lolly I would have a lot of fun setting up a prop house.
I would take advantage of the better dealers by covering their bets and making money.
Start them off on a 50/50 for wins and losses and it improves as the trader improves, so there is an incentive.
Any wannabees can challenge by getting on the winners board with theoretical money.

etc

Well. ..I guess if you keep trading and keep winning that is a business. Risk/Reward is very important and controlling your loss. There are many Forex Trader that treat trading like a business.

Good point.

For me, I think I'd find it hard to stay in a long ES trade if someone else in the room was short ES, I'd most certainly be influenced by that.

But for stocks - it makes a LOT of sense to have a group all looking out for opportunities. In fact, if such a group existed, I'd probably listen in for the oppo's and keep up a screen for trading stocks so I could trade them as I see fit.

Can someone start this, please?
