SpeedUpMyPC,

The site saysThe software will automatically optimizes and maximizes the performance of all computers within minutes, so just wondering is it worth buying

It may not be physically possible in just a few minutes. Many PCs have poor performance caused by fragmentation and this can sometimes take hours to improve.

I dont know about the application you've posted, but I have used (and indeed still use) this one, caled "Tune XP", which does work very well imo.

You can download it for free, unlimited use from here

No, you've got to do it manually, but there is something in the Help/Documentation option that walks you through it, and recommends what you should do for a "typical" user.

If you get stuck, give me another shout.

Generally speaking, these programmes only do what you can do yourself. Be careful of twiddling with settings you're not sure about. Use System Restore to be safe.
I suggest you go along to PcPitstop http://www.pcpitstop.com/ where you can test your machine, post the results and get friendly advice on how to improve it's performance. First stop could be more RAM for instance. Also you will learn what's going on inside your machine. If you want to see what you're running, try Everest http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html
and it's all FREE :cheesy: Enjoy yourself............

I have an older computer originally with Win98, Celeron 500 chip, 128mb ram, the computer needed regular hard drive optimisation using Norton's System Works and regular deletion of temp/internet temp files to return it's speed to normal. I installed an extra 256mb of ram and the speed improvement was very noticeable; now installed Win2000Pro and the speed/efficiency has been improved further.

While optimization doesn't appear to improve performance as it did when W98 was installed nor the deletion of temp files, I still do both and use the free: http://www.ccleaner.com/ which saves dozens of mouse clicks cleaning files.

You might consider downloading and installing HijackThis, while the program is considered a hijackers detector and remover utility — some trojans etc slow computer performance, it'll also display what programs are running on your computer: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

All of the most popular anti spy and adware progs are listed on this site. Most people run a combination of mostly free programmes to keep the b@stards out. There is also a virus/spyware forum on Pitstop http://pcpitstop.invisionzone.com/index.php?showforum=9
It is not advisable to remove objects with HiJackThis unless you are experienced. Expert advice is available........FREE :cheesy:
Basic maintenance is often the answer to slow machines. ;)
