Is software a necessity for technical analysis?

Can you not just the charts etc on the web?

What does the software offer extra?

Does it help you filter out patterns, e.g. based on MACD or ADX etc and is this why people use it i.e. to help them pick stocks?

Doesn't that depend what you use?

Many web-based chart services offer some sort of basic TA anyway.

Stock charts, futures charts, forex chart, historic charts for instance. Have a play.

Early stages really. I was wondering if it is worth getting something like sharescope as a learning tool and to test whether I am any good at reading charts using either dummy trades or micro amounts.
