I'm finding it difficult working out exactly how to get the best out of Interactive Broker trading platform and thought it might be a great idea for the more experienced traders to pass on their best set up info

I want to trade YM futures as quickly and efficiently as possible with rapid entry and exit Hotkey shortcuts and need to set up the following

Hotkey buy at mkt

Hotkey sell at mkt

Hotkey Ym stops

Hotkey number of contracts

Thanks in advance

Excellent idea Peter1. Just opened an account myself, and haven't a clue how to do anything yet. Would be very useful to get some usage tips from the experts on this site.

Only played with the TWS platform for a few minutes last night for the first time, and it certainly wasn't obvious how to do anything much.

Alternatively
Every day before the market opens, set up a string of market order lines to buy and sell different numbers of contracts for pyramiding, scaling, reversing, stops, so that they are all sitting there and all you have to do is hit the Transmit button on the chosen one at any time.
Only takes a minute or so to set them up and check them.
As regards Stops it's simple enough to change a market order to a stop order.
See attached pic as a rough idea.
Helps to ensure you hit the right button imho. !

Configure (at the top) >> Hot Keys.
Select a basic action from the description box like buy or sell, then click Create Shortcut.
Then either click record then press the key combo you want for the short cut or select a click event for a mouse action and click apply.
Then select the customise tab to make it do what you want to do.

Repeat for buy, sell, increase size, whatever.

That's right, and vice versa.
Keep it simple eh.

Also if you had bought 4 contracts and wanted to reverse the position and go short the same amount, you would sell 8 contracts.
4 of them would sell your original Bought position and the other 4 would put you Short of 4 contracts.

Hi Peter 1

If you would prefer a simplified interface to TWS you could try one of the bolt-on interface applications.

e.g. TSIM+ or Ninja Trader (google for these).
