I'm looking for a RED LCD monitor, that doesn't glow bright enough at night. My clock uses a laser to print the time on the ceiling but is subtle enough that the light doesn't keep you up.

In the old days use to see these monitors. Just light RED with black graphics. Want to keep some quotes streaming throughout the night without keeping the misses up.

yeah, i'd have thought some tweaking with brightness and contrast in a standard LCD display would give you the sort of result you're looking for that will be visible in a dark room but without lighting the place up.

if you really wanted red, you could go into the colour settings and turn all the other colours down and crank the red setting up.

Xymox doesn't strike me as a nutter, but neither is he (yet) noted for skewed humour, so on the basis it might be a real 'need' (and there's a good reason why the screen can't be other than in the bedroom!) - rig up something that will hold a sheet or two (or three) of red plastic over the screen...the sort of plastic envelopes you get to hold loose leaf documents in.

I have software (astronomy) which switches to black on red for night vision and in previous versions of XP left the settings on for anything else that was running – which was useful. But a little OTT just to achieve your needs.

Have a word with whoever provides the software you're using. Don't see the facility as having a very wide user base so you are unlikely to get lucky. But then again, you weren't going to be getting lucky anyway watching your trading screens in bed....

I was about to do a yacht race once, and we realised just before the off that the little light on a stalk over the chart table didn't have a red-bulb. Someone 'found' a red condom, slipped it over the lamp and ta-da! Night vision sorted, albeit with a slight burning rubber and strawberry smell below decks...

How about... start > settings > control panel > display > appearance > color scheme > high contrast black ?
