Here is another perfect example of the evolution of trading over the years, i've only been trading a couple of years but i have seen a significant improvements in many areas over this time... You only have to look on Forex threads on here from 5 years ago + to see people excited because a firm has the Spreads as low as 7 pips, where as these days that would be considered terrible spread for any major pair. I guess the reason trading is becoming so popular is because its more accessible to people as it gets even more established on the internet, and with it becoming more popular there becomes more money involved (especially since most people lose) So whats happening is that the brokers are becoming super competitive to stand out from the crowd.

I was blown away by this video considering its just a Spread Betting firm,

The tools we have is just getting better, after seeing this i'll try CMC out.

Whats your views on its progression in the more recent years?

Gullible idiots are fascinated by shiny sparkly toys. Brokers give them what they want.

A reduction in spreads gives a massive advantage, but the problems with retail brokers technical infrastructure that I first experienced maybe 10 years ago as an automated trader are pretty much the same problems I still face today.

Indeed.

But I think it’s good that they keep the public interested in the market because we need cannon fodder and they haven’t got the brains or the patience to do what is required.

I'm not bothered about about bells and whistles to be honest, all I have is price and some horizontal lines I draw myself.

I agree that you can see improvements even over the last few years, but charting-wise I really don't need much.

Overall reliability is key for me really.

Yeah i agree it can 'suck people in' but with 0.9 spreads fixed spreads on the indices and some forex and with people saying the fastest execution i'm gonna give them a try.. i'm happy with my brokers but i'll always save costs / see if there is any better available (y)

The CMC platform looks pretty but it crawls at the best of times. The charts are OK for longer timeframe trading but for daytrading they will just help you lose your money faster. I think the way to progress spreadbetting is to get more platforms like MT4 or Ninjatrader that have real functionality and flexibility rather than the pretty but ultimately useless offerings we have at the moment.

CMC (like most bookies) are very naughty bunnies, hopefully your experiences will be more positive than mine.

Right, i was happy with IG or CS for what i'm doing but if there are MT4 ones or Ninja Trader platforms available i'd like to look in to it, the only SB firm i have seen with MT4 was Smart Price Live markets... are these any good? Which firms do you know of with the above functions? Thanks

I don't think so mate, Fxcm are a USA company so won't have SB

There's a UK arm that offers spread betting. I opened an account but don't think I ever used it, so I can't really comment on how they worked in practice, but the spreads / platform / charting etc were fine. No futures though (n).

Checked them out, they look perfect if you are doing swing trading as they actually hedge each bet with a bank so whether you win or lose they don't mind.... only trouble is that its around 3 point spread and since i am only looking for 10 points at a time its not practical for me

You still..ahem..scalping the ftse then buddy? :D

Lol, well when i 1st started day trading i was scalping looking for 2 points at a time...
It was tedious and sometimes i'd have to make 30+ trades and age about 10 years in a session

I went back to the drawing board and now trade with 15m candles waiting for outbreaks :)

that CMC thing looks crap. I mean try CQG or iRT or one of the other ones, the proper ones. even eSignal ffs. all that "next generation charting" stuff is just giving you enought rope to hang yourself in crossing spreads. TROOF.

Anyway n00bberg what u dont knoe is that all charts in the world are actually drawn by my left b0ll0k (Bill) and my right one (Ben) on an etch-a-sketch.

P.s. they r called that cos my will is the little weed. LOLS
