need help

hey guys im really green to this and so is my girlfriend..but she was left stocks from her dad that pasted away and she wants to sell some of her stocks but keeps getting these letters from companies trying to buy her stock at a lower price then they are worth..well she doesnt want to sell them for what they are offering cause its way lower then what they are worth.we know next to nothing so any help or advice wld be greatly appreciated..

To start with it will be worth knowing :

What are the stocks ?
Are they shares / bonds ? Do they have paper certificates?
Who is offering to buy them and where are the potential buyers getting your details from?
How do you know they are undervaluing them?

Any updates on this? I agree, it would be helpful to have more information about the stocks. Also, wondering how they have your info to send letters offering to buy?
