My first automated trading system

Hello all.

I am about to start putting together my first automated trading system, and I am not sure where to start. As i am asking for your input, as this project develops I intend to keep you fully updated on the code and systems I am using and the profit I am making.

My current job is in the field of mathematical modeling, and i am familiar with most math related software (matlab,maple,TeX,R etc) and some trading software (Metatrader, Genesis trade navigator, etc). Additionally I am currently learning C++ for work, which i imagine will come in handy.

First thing is first, I have a live feed from ODL (although for work reasons i am seperated form the computer that uses it for work reasons) what should i do with it?

it seems you are well prepared. Right now you need only the rules of your system.

What do you expect from "us"?
What can offer math soft? I cant imagine what can you test, prove, analyse with it.

This is hopefully just a fun project and you are not seriously expecting to make money when you know so little?

Well, where do you stand? do you ahve rules, a framework in place (like ninjatrader)? do you have the necessary setup to handle issues etc.?

Automated trading is not ONLY the indicators etc., it involves order routing, order handling, handling issues like connection loss etc.

It is a long hard road.

What is the true cost of making profitable automated systems?At least $1,000,000 in time i.e 7500 hours *$100 ,professional programmers costs .computers , electricity and initial losses on mistakes

Next task is an A P I and costs associated with development.
