He was happy to describe himself as a speculator when others used the term as an epithet. Today we would call him a trader, but he was much more than that. He knew that although wealth conveys power it can also be harnessed to transmit joy and beauty.

Through generosity and sponsorship of important works. Baruch was also all about service. He advised Presidents from Woodrow Wilson onward. Such service was always uncompensated. The study of his life provides one with a parable for the conduct of one's own.

Baruch was a precursor to Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, and their compatriots in the recent flare-up of philanthropy. The accumulation of wealth becomes possible and meaningful only when the intent to give back resides firmly behind it.

Amidst our discussions of charts, indicators, and methodologies we do well to consider the spiritual aspect and our potential for service.
