Dell is fine until something goes wrong and at that price you can get a Toshiba which is better in my view.

I've own both of those in the last couple of years and have to say they are neck and neck, the Toshiba is what I am currently typing this on and I have bashed it to death with it still going strong, but then again my wife still uses my old Dell and it is still going strong as well. Might come down to looks. The system you outlined seems plenty for a trading machine to me, dedicated memory on a graphics card is always better, but for trading it wont be much of an issue.

What trading platform do you use? Depending on that, there is no reason why you shouldn't get a linux laptop from The Linux Emporium of a similar spec (Lenovo / IBM) for a lot cheaper. Here is a decent IBM Thinkpad for £456.00 with free delivery and Ubuntu Linux. Check if your broker supports Linux before you buy - most do. All the website based ones will, and I know IB's java platform works on Linux.

thanks for the reply's.

I have one other question, what is the difference between Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5300 Processor (1.73GHz,533MHz,2MB L2 cache) Processor and
Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core T2080 Processor (1.73GHz,533MHz,1MB L2 cache) processor.

To the layman (that would be me) not an awful lot, for the technically minded

Dell, Toshiba, IBM all fine in my view.

Would add avoid Sony Vio at all cost. They look good but pretty cumbersome and naff to work with.

The difference in the processors looks like the Layer2 cache memory. This speeds up any processes that uses queuing I believe. Hence, L2 with 2Mb will run faster.

I've got a Dell. Everybody in the family uses it at various times including my 6 year old. Had it over a year no problems.

Had a thinkpad for years 4+ and still works. I could only stopit from working by dismantling the whole thing to have a gander inside.

At work laptop standard was the Toshibas but last company was looking at replacing them for HPs. Don't know much about them as other than using other peoples at short intervals can't say anything bad about them.

Good luck.

PS. Forgot to add - make sure your apps can work with Vista.
