Hi

Just tried to open a new account with IG and i notice when i got to the end of the application it says in text that i need to supply passport and other documentation, never had this asked of any other spread betting account, is this the new idea, or is this normal. Bit wary about sending my passport and data through the post. i was also looking to open a fixed rate binary account and it is still asking for this. Is this the norm.

Thanks

Most spreadbetting companies do a credit inquiry/identity search and not ask for copy of passport. Maybe the search was unsuccessful and ask for a passport instead? This happened to me with Worldspreads, so I sent them a copy of my driving licence instead.

But i did not hit the submit button when i saw what they were asking for so there was no search done
i also used worldspreads they did not ask me for anything like that

You can scan your passport and send a copy. In my case they ask for a utility bill. They are ok but not sure about their spreads as they are not fixed

It seems to depend on which company they use for credit checking. Only Marketspreads seems to ask for proof of ID now, apparently because the rules are different in Ireland.

You don't send your passport and data through the post. You send them a scanned copy, even taking a photo of it on your phone will usually do as long as it is clear enough. And it's common with most brokers, although as you point out, I didn't realise it was common with all spreadbetting co's.
