Italy leaving the EU

You mean you don't have mobs of people yearning for Franco?

They are, all, dying off, now, but, yes, there are some who yearn for the old days. Bribery and corruption was easier, then. Now, they take you to court. Don't know what the world is coming to!

Unfortunately, I do. *sigh*

Thanks, I guess I was wrong about them leaving the EU.

It looks like it is going to get a big NO anyhow.

60 governments since 1945?

How come they can't agree on something and stick to it?

Marine Le Pen promises a "Frexit" if elected.

"Frexit
I am Excited!"

Pretty good story about the vote on Sunday......

Italy referendum explained: What is it about and what would a No vote mean for the UK?

If the eurozone economy goes into another slump brought on by a fresh financial panic it will damage growth in the UK by depressing exports and hitting domestic UK business investment

The country’s centre-left Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, has promised to resign if the electorate rejects his proposals. But the vote hangs in the balance.

Financial market traders are showing signs of nerves, with some analysts even suggesting that a "no" vote could ultimately lead to the destruction of the entire eurozone.

Before the official blackout on polls on 18 November, there was a projected 53.5 per cent to 46.5 per cent lead for the “No” camp”.

There is some hope that the 20 per cent people who haven’t made up their mind will ultimately swing behind “Yes”.

But this has been a of year of massive protest votes – in the form of Brexit and Donald Trump’s US Presidential victory.

And the “No” vote is being championed by the populist Five Star movement, led by the comedian Beppe Grillo, an admirer of Mr Trump.

In short, the outlook for Mr Renzi is not particularly good.

So what happens if Mr Renzi resigns?

The government falls. But the real question is what happens after that.

Latest odds.

A busy weekend for the EU.
Looks like everyone has had enough of socialism and central planners.

populist is a term used by the establishments with intention to diminish the others, Grillo yes is a comedian but he always been one at the expenses of the corrupt governments.

Corruption springs from every corner in Italian society but mostly if fermented between professional politicians.

He has created this political movement online only seven years ago gaining huge consents trough transparency and honesty.

It is the second force in the Italian political arena and they have a good chance to govern if the Italians are given the democratic right to vote.

Renzi is part of the establishment, some kind of left wing political chic, professional politicians, Renzi never worked outside politics. He has been placed there by the instruction of the Germans.
He does not decide anything, he is muppet, this reform is supported by the European Union and the financial international institutions.

I would not take very seriously what is written in the International newspapers, they are also the establishment or muppet of them. They will ferment what is convenient to them

There is new hope going on in the western counties and Brexit and the Us election are the consequence of it,power back to the people.

It will not be easy because the other side have the best tools to resist but when the people had enough and they get involved it is just a matter of time.

It is not about being right or left wing, those are archaic notions to control masses as religion do, it is about giving dignity back to the people.

So, what are they saying in Italy? Do you think that Trump's anti-establishment election will spill over to the YES voters?

Just curious...do many Italians study Latin? I studied it for 2 years in high school and 4 semesters in college. I enjoyed learning about the Roman culture and history. Very interesting....especially the stories about the gods and myths.

I think the Brexit and Trump will have an influence not only in Italy but all around, but those are only a consequence of what was fermenting already, the conscience of the people was already up there.

Italy has always been a fertile ground for politician change, if you think about it there are many analogies between Trump and Berlusconi.

Yes myself I did study Latin.

I am just starting to read "The decline and fall of the Roman empire" by Edward Gibbon an English historian, writer and Member of Parliament, he died in 1794, fascinating work, the guy knew his sh@t.

I guess that referendum will affect EUR just like the way brexit affected GBP, still seems another opportunity for those who shorted GBP during brexit and made money.

Very rarely is there something new in the human affairs world. It has all happened before but with a new twist to it sometimes. I search for likely similarities between a narcistic, over bearing Trump and those of the past, particularly Roman and Greek.
You may not agree but I see 2 Roman Emperors that Trump mirrors to some extent. They are Caligula and Nero. Neither easy going and both not much good really.
The Roman Senate proved to be a nuisance and was got rid of. Well it could happen again.
Let's see.
