Hi

the "ignore" function is a useful thing IMO, although i don't currently have any T2W fellow members on my ignore list.

However, i think the ignore function has a weakness. If i add someone to my ignore list, i cannot see what they have written in their posts, i just see that they have made a post, but not the content. Fair enough maybe.
But then, i could add someone to my ignore list, and they could be replying to my posts, asking questions or taking the ****, and i am none the wiser. I would argue that this isn't fair, and that the ignore function can work against the person who puts the other member on the ignore list.

My suggestion is -
If I put someone on my ignore list, I also have the option to prevent this member from being able to read my posts (contribution to the T2W community). For me, this seems only fair.

Are you in favour of my suggestion, Yes or No?

Someone tell me what he said, will you?

lol

its a serious point though. If someone did make it onto my ignore list, its because they've done something to seriously offend me. At this point i don't want any further contact with them.
Therefore why should they have the benefit of being able to see what i contribute to T2W, AND quote what i say, ask me questions etc. that i would not be aware they are asking, possibly making me look bad in the views of others, etc.etc.

If you put someone on ignore they could log back in as a guest and read what you posted so it would seem that this is not possible. If you don't want certain people reading your posts then don't post on a public bulletin board and set up a private one instead.

Also can you imagine following a thread where gaps appear with no logic as to what was said previously because you have been prevented from reading certain posts ?

This doesn't make any sense in my view

Maybe....

And maybe not. This should only really affect the ignorer and the ignoree. At the moment it is the person who ingores (ignorer) and not the ignoree (offender) who is penalised.
This doesn't seem right, as the person who ends up on the ignore list has done something seriously wrong to warrant being placed there, so why should it only be the ignorer who then has to put up with slightly disjointed threads, and possibly being made to look bad, and not the ignoree?
At least this way, the ignorer and the ingoree are placed at an equal advantage. This should be the minimum consequence, its bad enough that the person forced to place someone on their ignore list possibly then has to put up with slightly disjointed threads as a result.

Any thread would only become slightly disjointed IMO, as the 2 would not see each others posts, yet would see the others post/s if another member quoted them. I don't see this as a problem. This is the situation at present for the ignorer only.
No other member would suffer, or be aware that a member contributing to the thread was ignoring another member adding to the thread.

If you're quoted, either formally as above or just using the quotation marks, it could be seen. Or if someone replies with, "JTrader, I am surprised you're admitting on an open forum that you like to kiss donkeys." the ignored will see it.

Of course not, if you don't want someone to see something you post then don't post it!

This idea is petty mindedness at best...

That'd be fair enough, even if it meant they knew they were on your ignore list.

I'm only talking about as an option to hide all your posts from the ignoree, the ignorer can decide if they want to do this or not, they wouldn't have to.

The present situation just seems unfair to me, you ignore someone for good reason, yet they can still see all your posts....

:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Ignoring someone isn't to punish them it's because you don't want to read their posts.

so, if I choose not to read a particular newspaper I can decide not buy it.
but, if the editor of a newspaper so deems it, he/she can choose not to sell it to me?

the choice of putting someone on ignore is one thing, to impose that facility on someone else is a tad weird, and equally open to abuse.
in fact, strictly speaking, you may not even have a reason, other than mischief to use such a facility, and write all manner of gossip about someone without them knowing.
(just being devils advocate)

as per Trader333, start a Private Forum. ie, utilise existing features rather than trying to get T2W to implement such a change.

honestly cant see the use of such a thing.

I chose option (2) for the poll, as option (3) "You have way too much time on your hands" wasnt available. :cheesy:

hope you caught some of the GBPUSD drop this morning, though the EURJPY was cleaner.

EDIT: I have never had need for the Ignore function, or maybe havent been upset enough. If that ever happened, I would want to skim the posts just in case something untoward was being written, and have the option of reporting the post before things got out of hand.

Another thing, I've seen the ignore used on chatrooms and it does become pointless when other people start quoting in both directions.

If I want to ignore someone, I just ignore them: I don't respond to them.
