Have you tried your local Chambers of Commerce?
They may have established links to legitimate and reliable companies.
You might be able to speak to other businesspeople who have experienced sourcing abroad, and may give you useful advice, hints and tips, etc.
Maybe meet like-minded entrepreneurs?

(mine is Birmingham, and they organise useful meetings for networking)
