IB DDE link out

Trying this again I'm trying to feed IB's prices into other chartware. In the setup they say that to reveal the format of the feed, you must click on a "live" price, Edit, Copy, then open Excel or similar spreadsheet and click Edit, Paste Special and Paste Link. This should paste the price (which should change in line with the feed) into the spreadsheet with the link information.
Paste link is greyed out. I think I saw somewhere that old versions of Excel can't handle this. I've got an old copy(Version 5.0A) of Excel. Is this the problem? If so, short of buying an update, is there another way of revealing the info?

Thanks Jonny, I've had a look there and it all seems a bit mixed and quiet compared with here!

I seem to remember you need Office 2000 minimum to achieve this so you would need Excel 2000 to get the data.

Has anyone got broker with fast dde quote update, i.e. most brokers update 1 quote a second, have heard of any brokers you've tested to be faster than that?
