How to run system tester only on ftse100 stocks

Does anyone know how I can separate the ftse100 stocks out from the list of >3000 LSE stocks that Metastock lists? So that I can run the system tester only against these 100 stocks.

I have a text file that lists all the ticker codes for the companies that constitute the ftse100.

I think what I'm after is a way to (automatically..) move or copy all the security files for the ftse100 constituents into a separate folder. I'm wanting to do the same for the ftse250.

Can anyone help?

Look in the Downloader’s User Manual, page 40 I think, where you’ll find the instructions to do what you want.

Thanks - but that doesn't help. Page 40 of the manual does have the instructions for what Im wanting to do, but Metastock and the Reuters data feed - in their infinite wisdom - haven't seen fit to break the FTSE100 or FTSE250 indices down by stock as they have done with the US markets. (see attached picture. Nice of them to include folders for the S&P100 etc etc with my European data subscription, with stocks I can't access data for, while omitting a similar setup for the FTSE.).

Any other ideas?

The reason I want this is because I'm trading CFDs and the ones available to me for the UK market are only the FTSE100 and FTSE250 constituents. The other >2600 listings on the UK market are untradeable for me, so I don't want to run system tests and scans on stocks I can't trade anyway.

Hi rf74nz,

I think that I can still help you; let’s see, I’ve come up with a couple of ways to do this.
The first one is using the Downloader; on page 10 of the Downloader’s User Manual you’ll find the instructions to create a folder with the required securities.
Another way is to use the Explorer; let’s say that you create an exploration on the close of the FTSE100 components, and you name it FTSE100 or similar.
Select and run the exploration in the usual way, then save it by clicking on the “Save List” button; click on the “Explorations” folder, and select the exploration name (for argument sake, let’s call it “FTSE100”), and save your exploration there.
To access it, go to the “open” icon, and click on the “favorites” icon on the pop-up, select explorations, securities, and that is all.
This exploration can also be accessed from the System Tester in the same way.

I still didn't quite understand, but you had me convinced it was possible. so I went back to the help file and the way to do is is:

create a text file with a .SYM extension, containing all the ticker codes you want (like AAL.L, BLT.L, etc)
In the downloader, create a new folder and populate it from the contents of the SYM file
Update the individual stocks data as per usual.
