how to download Free data into Metastock 10?

Use downloader to convert the data for ms 10
Read the book given out with the MS 10 if you don't know how to convert the data and what format to use....

Thanks for the quick respose. I did find the link. However I was wondering if there is a way to automate this pocess so that Metastock can read it directly from yahoo or some other website.

As far as I am aware, NO there is no automation process using Downloader for Yahoo.......Reuters Yes......But nothing else.....

....BUt then someone may prove me wrong....!!

Hello Guys,

I find the manual process of downloading files awfull, so after a couple of days searching the internet, i finally found a software that will integrate yahoo and quote.com free data to metastock, completely automated.

I am using it and its working fine, the link is this one:
www.hquotes.com/hq.exe

The only issue i've found so far is that sometimes some opening or close price is corrupted, for instance instead of saying "close: 6,50" it says "Close 650", so you see an extremely long candlestick in the middle of the chart, I just right click and edit it when this happens. Besides, i still dont know if its a yahoo issue or if its the program.

It saves me a lot of time downloading anyway,

I use an excel spreadsheet for getting stock prices from Yahoo - see Gummy Stuff :
Yahoo data download

There is a spreadsheet which allows you to download up to 200 stock prices and another that allow's up to 1000 stock prices.

I then convert my text data to Metastock using: the TextToms program - if you type this in Google, you will get several sites from which you may then download this.

What I like about this, is that I am always in control of my data.

There are a number of software packages out there including HS Quotes. The problem is that they work most of the time but sometimes they don't work which is problematic e.g. they will leave gaps in the downloaded data that you have to fill in manually, or they will refuse to download a particular day for no apparent reason, won't download sometimes if you are outside the US etc. Even more importantly, once you buy the software there is no support no matter what they state.

Overall, I would recommend that if you follow a lot of stocks and quality of data is important, that you pay the fee and use the Reuters feed.

Hi,
I have been using an excel application I developed which retrieves the historic closes (date, open, high, low, close and volume) from yahoo finance and creates a excel file with all the info and ticker symbols so the only thing you need to do is to go to the Metastock Downloader and click on the convert icon.
That's it.
Then you just go to Metastock and open the file chart you want.
In my application you only need the list of symbols which can be saved so you already have it there every day and the number of days to retrieve.
Everytime you have a new stock to add just run the application for that symbol and select to retrieve 5000 days of info and you have the new database for that symbol.
Simple but effective.

Do you mean that you can download intraday data also? I don't have a problem with daily, it's coming from Yahoo i believe. For the intraday, Hquotes has a proprietary method for acquiring intraday data.

LOL..So you can't even throw money their way. Perhaps you can email Hquotes telling them you want to give them money, it might give them an incentive to continue(if indeed they have stopped the service), this is the email that I have received responses from Hquotes
