I'd say there's at least one for every person in this country (given there are tramps and many have more than one chair, numbers should more than cancel each other out). Plus one chair for every business in the UK (mobile businesses and multiple chairs in larger companies should balance each other).

I suppose one problem is that such furniture breaks over time. As they say, chair today, gone tomorrow.

Define chair.

I would hazard a guess at around half a billion. Cars alone will be 100 million.

5 per person - about 300m

2 per person at home
1 per person for all vehicles
1.5 per person non-home (school/work)
0.5 per person inventory

A chair. I have been given this question as a interview question for a trader position some time ago.
And I dont know the answer.

Here's one made for Gordon Brown.

The answer is of course none. There is one chair in chairs, and three in "Charlie, hark at lady muck, puttin' on her airs. Common chairs'll not do fer 'er now".

Napoleon had a lovely taste in chairs, when he wasn't getting up to wars and other mischief:

TBH if I saw that question on some kind of test I'd be inclined to write 'Who gives a flying f**k?'
