I have a esignal data feed and been having a delayed data I spoke ot them and they said it must be my broad band which I am currently with BT.

I was also told to ask them to re route me which i donot understand . I have a 8MB line but when i test it I only get 5MB out of it.

What can i do to improved the delay? Do i need another data provider or another broad band line.

Hi Grey1

Assuming you are using your bandwidth for your trading applications only, 5MB is more than adequate. You could try a speed test around the same time you are experiencing data delays, if you still have 5MB bandwidth then you have virtually eliminated any problems with your internet connection and i would be inclined to say your data vendor is the problem. If you are experiencing reduced bandwidth then there could be numerous causes which i can help you with if that's the case.

I just did a test as seen ... so who is responsible for the delay ? the band width or data vender?

Your download speed is fantastic so the source of the problem definitely points towards your data vendor. Can you change data servers, i am not familiar with Esignal so i can't help you in that respect?

data can get delayed if something else as nicked port I think, not expert but ask around if you get no luck with above, or even ask one of their tekkky chaps, sure they will help.

usually something/program you have recently added, can be something daft like router upgrade

I get similer or did before I got my lad is own connection for his X box, always ended up clearing out router files (re-setting BT box) was told it was port confusion / corruption = all trying to get through same port or something.

LM is pretty good and usually responds to pc queries

For extra ammunition when you speak with Esignal you can tell them that i have just done a speed test and my ping time is approximately double and my download speed is half yours and i am not experiencing any data delays from my data vendors (TradeStation & CQG).

Have you tried running the eSignal Diagnostic Tool just in case it picks up anything. This should alert you to any Port problems and the info returned may give eSignal support some clues when you ring them.

However, it sounds as if others are having the same problems and that the problem emanates from eSignal.

you could also download a small freeware program called "ping plotter" which can trace the data route from your PC to esignals servers, and show hop times for each step of the way your data takes.

Handy for showing any bottlenecks in the system, but also can produce a report so if the problem is not at your end, you can prove its at theirs!

how do you know the data is delayed, by the way? do you have another data source that shows the correct prices?
 
I can ping Esignal ok, but tracert comes up with two timeouts when it gets to their servers.
According to their instructions that indicates a problem at their end.
I have sent them an e-mail with the tracert details.

IB have also announced problems today with US stocks data. My TWS has been frozen for a couple of hours now !

I have tested my broadband across to California and New York using Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test and I'm getting just under 4mb/sec, so as far as I'm concerned it's Esignal and IB's problem

Grey1 is it the data that is delayed, i.e. is nasdaq or indu that is delayed, or both(charts)? or other data?
I had problems with bt , recently, I contacted them and after much nagging got my speed up to 7.5-8 mb,thats what you pay for!
finally if you use bt phone line for your broadband, changing a provider wont solve anything, as they just sub-contract the line from bt
 
8MB Speed is too much, the problem is with the data vendor.. Since for correct operation of data feed the default or normal speed required is just 2MBbs.

Better talk with the data vendor...

Not true. 8Mb is perfectly OK for ADSL2. Your maximum speed mostly depends on your distance from the exchange. ADSL speed is determined by negotiation between your modem and the DSLAM at the exchange, and takes into account signal to noise ratio and signal attenuation - both of which mostly depend on distance.
