Gadaffi

Moral of the story: Don't try and sell your oil for gold:|

Next:

Will the UK and US bomb Mugabe next, and give back the land to those nice farmers and stop the nasty man killing all them people that don't like him:whistling

Nah, moral of the story is dont provide support to terrorists in the UK because sooner or later we'll get our own back. This was just a convenient excuse, same as the French, just looking for some excuse to be rid of him after the war in Chad etc etc.

Good, in honour of this event. "When I was young I had no sense, I bought a flute for 50 pence, the only tune that I could play was F uck Gaddafi and the IRA".

Anyone think this will affect Crude Oil much?

Possibly, but I'd imagine it will drive it down a but but then people will get nervous and realise that what matters is how fast supply can get back toward previous levels, Gaddafi's death is purely symbolic.

Moral of the story: Don't try and sell your oil for gold:|

What I don't get is why did Gaddafi bother upsetting the natural order of things (i.e. dollars for oil) in light of Saddam's fate after daring to ask for € rather than US$ and the fact that Gaddafi already has substantial gold holdings (I've read he owned as much as 5% of all the gold ever mined, around $500bn worth at current prices, I don't doubt his real holdings were far less than this but even so he didn't need gold).

Let's hope so.

No of course not there is no oil there so no vested interest.

I guess there must be -ve NPV as all the construction and agricultural income would require hella infrastructure for Zimbabwe and time. Just need to ship in a rig for the oil lol.

Plus, getting involved in Zimbabwe's diamond business would necessarily involve stepping on China's toes which isn't a great idea.

As for infrastructure, I'd have thought the necessary infrastructure to remove diamonds in Zimbabwe would be far less laborious to construct than the infrastructure required to drill, contain and ship oil from Libya; in Zimbabwe you could take away a whole day's worth of quality diamond exports in a single helicopter-load, to transport 1.6mn barrels a day (or the 3 million a day they want to get out of Libya) on Aframaxes would require several ships, chartered, crews hired, insurance purchased, shipping routes established etc

Of course, Libya could sell $200mn worth of oil every day until it runs out of the stuff, Zimbabwe can have as many beautiful diamonds as it likes in the end there are only so many multi-millionaires and billionaires and they only want so many diamonds, so the market will dry up.

Good luck building any infrastructure to actualise its potential in agricultural terms, the only people who did that successfully were White and most of them are gone or itching to leave. The next despot who takes over Zimbabwe won't give a **** about anything other than subsistence farming, enough food to keep people's tummies full, he'll care about diamonds and, if there is any, gold. AFAIK Mugabe just used farm redistribution to a) deprive Whites of power in Zimbabwean society and b) reward those who were loyal to him.

We are of course swimming in Afgan oil. It's all about the oil you know. We never do anything unless there's oil.

Afghan is of great strategic influence.

Rear front for attacking Iran. Part of the axis of evil by the evil neo-cons. Ofcourse they'll have you think Syria/Iraq/Iran was the axis of evil. We all know true axis of evil lies much closer to home.

Oh did I forget to mention establishing a puppet regime and base in central Asia next to oil, gas and mineral rich countries ripe for dominion.

It's because they don't like our democratic freedoms and way of life we shall be sure to kick their ass until they do... How effing stupid can any superpower be?

To think our dense mass public buys into this **** too.

Well if they could actually put up a bit of a fight when faced with a western military force things might be different. Seeing as how they seem to last about 4 weeks against a proper army then there's not much they can do except complain on Internet forums I suppose.

10 years and $4 trillion later and lemme guess you are the smart one

@ J trader - You have to be careful with diamonds as small increases in availability quickly lead to supply saturation and lower values. Apparently they're nowhere near as rare as debeers would have us believe. I remember reading that there are many semi precious stones that are far rarer than diamonds.

@P Boyles. Afghan Lulz

Just to add fire to the gaddaffi conspiracy flames, my friend who lives in france says that french tv is reporting nato attacked gadaffi then he was found rather than insurgents sweeping the city as reported here. Waiting to hear from Algeria tomorrow for more lulz.

Can't say if it's good or bad. But the great benefit will be on who can control the middle east now.

It's not that hard to last 10 years when you just plant IED's and cowardly blend into the local population by pretending to be farmers and hiding behind women and children.

You want them to wear uniforms to prop up regimes they don't support but are run by tyrants so you can shoot them from miles away.

Mate the word unthinking heartless fool that you are - just doesn't come close to describing your justification for the 10yrs and $4trillions of loss.

They may not like their rulers and they certainly don't like foreign boots either. Not to mention their rulers were pretty much all planted there once upon a time in the West.

Our governments hide behind fools like you - who believe everything they are told.

Sometimes I feel our public is pretty much the same breed of goats when it comes to ignorance as the Afghans.
