After only 3 races of the new F1 season two things have become very apparent to me.

They are :-

1. Fernando Alonso possesses the much needed X Factor in bucket loads and is the new Michael Schumacher, and

2. Jenson Button is destined to become the Tim Henman of Formula 1 motor racing and, as much as we would love him to win; like poor old Tim he will always come up agonisingly short.

Any comments ?

F-1 is certainly more entertaining, and thus worth watching.
genuine excitement now, which has been missing for some time.

never liked old Schumie, a bit too robotic.
at last, the drivers ability is a race-winning component.
( I remember old Hill winning when at Williams, mainly down to the car, then losing when he got dumped to a lesser team. Ditto Villeneuve. )

Its almost F-3000, where the cars are essentially identical, and its the drivers ability that counts.
Button - I agree, doesnt seem to have the "hunger". I wonder if a working-class kid with a chip on his shoulder would do better ?

I wouldnt underestimate Honda and in my view they will devlop a package that will win.

Paul

I sincerely hope that you are right Paul but do they have the driver to compete with Alonso I wonder ??

ahhh, ive drifted off F1 Since Old Nige Mansel driving for -Williams left the scene. :) And lets face it with a tash like he had how could he not become champion.

I think the F1 guys should have to do a global charity day race on the annual tour..... and maybe all do monaco in standard austin maxi's be more entertaining and a real test of driver skill. Alas business has got hold of another sport.... squish.... its all business now. ho hum. sorry I mean Professional Sport. yes.. thats it. hmmm.

cheers Nige....

Yes, it was really exciting in Nige's day and what a great guy and driver he was.

He had that real but rare fighting spirit that carries you right to the top and yes, the tache certainly added to the whole thing.

Maybe Jenson should grow a handlebar moustache and also attend a "reverse anger management" course.

Yes good old murray walker commentating on mansel, conducted as a proud father cheering his own son to victory in the 100 metres on school sports day..... ahh the emotion of it...

could be worse, those Indy races circuits, round and round and round surprised people can drive back home , heads gong round and round and round..

easy to spot F1 fan against an Indy Fan look at the heads one will be asleep the other will be asleep but with the head going round and round and round.

If we're talking about drivers then sadly I doubt that Button has what it takes mentally to challenge Alonso. Raikkonen, I feel does however.

If we're talking about cars then right now noboddy seems capable of challenging Renault although I too think that Honda will be better placed by end of season.

That said, when you put Alonso and Renault together, its really only a race for second place and the seasons just started.

.......and that's just boring I'm afraid

hmm, I guess it is ,can we say a team sport with a very sharp focal point , maybe they can or should do a split,

Team F1, as is and
Driver F1, The winning construction team from team F1 produce all the cars for the next seasons Driver F1 all same cars, as can be with such things, then down to drivers for that side of real F1 Individual driver skill. public like this idea of paying money to see driver skill dont they? thats what they hope for. (unique paint jobs and different sponsors allowed on these cars.)

Who will drive the driver F1? probably not Team F1 drivers but ,well others. :)

public pays the money and takes their choice, double bubble race meets, kerchinnnng!

Fx.

trying to, umm visualise sport in ummm sports. Is that a goer?

I can hear the commentators "Of course its really important for Team F1 as they will be supplying all the cars for next seasons Driver F1, and hows that for an advert" Bigger kerchinnnnnnnng. Maybe.

Anyone going seeing as its Silverstone?

Trying not to let the world cup overtake the world (or mine at least)!

Sick as a Parrot

With all the hype and razzamatazz I should have shorted wonderboy Lewis this morning......

Alas another one that got away....

Talk about Henmania everyones gone mad.......

Lewis is still 12 points ahead in the Driver's Championship at the moment, so still has a pretty good chance of winning overall in his first ever F1 season. Unprecedented.

F1 is much more interesting now that Ferrari no longer has everything it's own way... and there are 3 clusters of teams competing.

Everyone on Bridgestone tyres is also a good idea.

Lewis clearly made the wrong tyre choice today. Soft seemed to outperform the hard, so Raikonnen and Alonso had the edge.

Coulthard's performance seems to have improved this season too, but Red Bull needs to improve on reliablilty. I see Coulthard has already signed for Red Bull for 2008.

on a different sport entirely.... can Federer beat Borg's record and make it 6 Wimbledon titles in a row next year?

Great to hear from you blueT

You surely know your F1..... much more than me (or is it I) ??
I'm a Lewis fan naturally.... look what he's done whether he becomes champ or not.

As a speculator I was expecting to arbitrage the emotions of the masses ... but alas I forgot to place the bet....... visiting mi Old Dear...!

I had a strong feeling he wouldn't win but really wanted him to finish outside the podium position... That Non -podium bet looks on for next time but again he needs to be qualify on front row of grid to give that bet a low risk chance... like markets nothing goes in a straight line ... and that podium record is getting a bit overbought - perhaps...

Fed for #6 ? Depends how Rafa and some of the other movers and shakers perform over the next few months.... I mean look what happened to Henin ...all the mo leading up to big one but didn't show when it mattered ... probably missing hubby :cheesy:

See ya BlueT

We got the non podium we were looking for ........... but he did not (obviously) qualify on front row...... in GERMANY.

As for Hungary hope he wins ..... I'm actually a fan believe it or not...............

McLaren Controversy

The ITV F1 forum boards have gone crazy!!

The FIA decision was correct (although no constructor's points for McLaren is a bit harsh).

Alonso obviously did it deliberately, and Ron Dennis has blamed Lewis so that Alonso wasn't directly penalised by the FIA. Ron SHOULD'VE blamed the TEAM, not LH.

I just read Ron's statement on the ITV-F1 site, and his explanation sounds plausible I suppose. I feel sorry for him. Imagine trying to strike the right balance between two very talented, hungry, ambitious drivers like FA and LH; at the same time maintaining the interests of the team! Very difficult. If he gets this wrong then the in-fighting will be detrimental to FA, LH AND the team.

Ron is firmly stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Added to the secret stealing story this isn't doing the sport as a whole any good at all...

This is difficult for me. To hell with the cars--I'm interested in the drivers. Living in Spain, I had to be an Alonso fan. Now Hamilton is news------Well, he is British, isn't he?

So now Alonso has been set back six places for blocking Hamilton at the pits and Hamilton is in pole position. I think he's got it in the bag!

I'm, also, interested in the blame factor and what will be said next week.

Split

hmm....seem not much people discuss about F1 lately.but what a season for Ferrari and well done for Kimi which never gave up to win the championship:p
