It's a competition. Two men (or women or even children) stand ready. When they see the light flash, they draw and shoot at a target. An electronic timer of some kind clocks their speed. The first link I posted was a championship.

But I don't understand it either: How can anybody draw, shoot, and hit the target so fast you can't even see their hands (yes, in most cases hands) move!? (Well, I do understand it. I read up on it. But it still amazes me.)

Yep, I sorta figgered it'd be my own little thang here.

Ahhhhh, OK Gene, it was lightening fast draw, I thought it was because I was thick ! that I didn't get it
but I can now hold my head up ! and relax, the penny has dropped
