I have tried to find a program that will let me take my trades to a excel spreadsheet that can be read with out a solid line of numbers separated with a comma now and then. Have not been able (as of yet) to find a program. Comments. Thanks

using Interbank FX and it says that I can export the file to standard which just puts it in my Firefox or export to cvs. When I do the cvs and bring up a spread sheet there are just lines of numbers with a comma here and there.

I think I understand what the problem is but without seeing the CSV file I wouldn’t be able to help. Are you sure you are exporting it correctly in the first place?

Would have to say yes, under my page with the broker it only gives me two options, first one is standard which exports it in a HTML file and the second options exports to cvs file

First let's make sure we are talking about the same thing. Do you mean cvs or CSV (Comma-Separated Values )?

If it is a CSV file then every value must be separated by either a comma, a space or a tab if you want Excel to put those values in different columns. You can open the file in a standard text reader like 'notepad' and see it for yourself. If the values you want to appear in different columns are not separated by a comma then you can add the comma yourself.

you are right, each transaction that I have made with the broker is on a line separate by a comma, I was looking for a program that would , say, put this in a spreadsheet that would be in individual columns. Is there one?

Does it look something like this:

Date,Time,Side,Price
13/8/2011,14:30,Buy,1180
13/8/2011,14:31,Buy,1180
13/8/2011,14:32,Buy,1180

If it is a CSV file and what you want is for each value to be in its appropriate column in Excel then Excel is all you need. You just have to make sure you are importing it correctly.

When you export the file as a CSV file it should save it as a CSV file with the proper extension i.e. filename.csv

If you are using Excel 2007 to view it then
1) Open Excel
2) Select ‘Open’
3) In the open dialog box make sure you select the FILES OF TYPE to be ‘Text Files (*.prn;*.txt;*.csv)

If it is an older version of Excel then I think (if I remember correctly) you select ‘Import’ then select ALL TYPES in the file types. It may take you through a step by step process after that but make sure you select ‘Comma Separated’ somewhere in the process.

Try this and see how you get on.

I got it, I got it....thanks. What I was doing was saving he file and then just (open with) excel and that is where I made the problem. Now I open excel to start with, then go to the open in excel, find the file and then get.. the text wizard has determined that your data is delimited etc etc....THANKS !!
