Evening trading US shares

...T&S was all green...

Pitbull, I have a question about time and sales information. Why are greens on T&S considered to be a bullish sign? Greens obviously mean trades going off at the ask price but who is buying and who is selling? What if the market makers are actually offloading to retail buyers and letting them chase?

BF2, because the buyers are active as taking the offer and not passive and waiting to be hit by a seller. Yes you're right, an MM can offload, watch for ECN or MM showing small size, but keeps refreshing his order, but T&S confirms he's got a reserve when 1000's of shares go by. An MM, due to high demand can therefore lift his offer to sell at a higher price

There are two types of buyers and sellers. You have active ones and passive ones. The active one is the one that buys market and passive one is the one that's on the offer. The active one wants to pay up because he needs to get his order filled! So he will take out the offer! You might be buying from a market maker/specialist. You probably are, but the point is, the market maker/specialist is most likely in a position where he expects buying to come in, because he'll be long and selling it to you at higher prices to provide liquidity.

Also, doesn't necessarily mean retail are chasing could be different MM's buying and selling

grey1 feels market is sentiment driven and not all that technical now a days ,,, I closed all my long ( Investment and not intra day ) postions 10 days ago and only kept my shorts. I am expecting a sell off end of next week but you never know, bulls are still around ..

I took 2200 Long AKAM yesterday for 3 days with a target of 6K ish stop of 1750$ which was just touching my lower volatilty envelope. The out of phase cycle going into the close was an indication of adding to my postion size which would have meant lesser stop loss and this I did not want to go for ,,

grey1 is looking to invest in C as a long term investment, Just waiting to know where i stand with the market. Awesome fundamentals.

Steel stocks might be wild, especially X, best of the bunch as just issued $750m worth of bonds to go on a spending spree. Great funnymentals!

But with that approach are you not buying exactly when every other retail trader is buying? The market maker has probably bought way back at a much better price and he is now, as you’ve said, expecting liquidity. So you are providing that liquidity along with other retail traders.

I don’t mean to be critical, I just genuinely wish to learn because I don’t understand T&S.

Don't forger retail is only a very small part of the volume. Institutionals do the most volume. And they need a seller when they buy, mostly that's the marketmaker/specialist if he can't find natural sellers.
He's not expecting liquidity, because the marketmaker/specialist is the one providing liquidity! The institutional buyer is the one taking liquidity!

These are my entries for the stocks mentioned above. I am expecting a good break out to above on Monday ,, Mystop loss= $450 + 743$ - ( cost) or lower volatility envelope on SXR which ever is hit first.. Either way I am hedged against my to day's win ,, target is 4K hopefully I get that before wednesday . I am sure you know what I think of the market by now ,, I feel we have a major correction ahead of us late next week ,,

PS:-- AKAM finally returned a sum of $3500 on 3/4 pos and Uraium $1200... Not bad for few hours of trading ,, mytrading partner also made himself a neat $500 with tiny pos size.

Grey1,

As always, the post was very informative-Please can you elaborate slightly more on your selection criteria for the 3 Long and 3 short stocks for the day?

Thanks

Raj

dvdh and Pitbull,
Thanks for your responses. I think I understand it better now.

Do you guys trade the entire US session or just the morning? Roughly how many trades do you take? I personally can manage max 2 trades in parallel but any more and I miss things.

I trade the entire US session! On a busy day I trade up to 20 stocks in a day. On quiet days like most of them last week max. 5 to 10 a day.

I can manage up to 3 trades, depending on the time frame.

OK i am done for to day I have left FRG ,USU,DNN,URRE open for 2morrow. I am up already $3000 on uranium stocks with FRG up another 6% DNN up 8% USU up 2%.. The canadian market was closed to day hence no P/L from SXR ,PDN , JNN ,, If market was open i am sure i would have met my 4000$ target on uranium

On the other stocks I made 1500$ ish with best trade being LRCX,, a Nice VWAP engine signal

ALl in all $ 4500 up for the day which is more than my daily target ,,

I will close 75% of my uranium stocks as soon as i get to my target of $4000 and shall let the rest to run till There is weakness on DOW,,

Talk of the DOW, Technically we should expect a correction soon ,,, be careful all those who are long .. The correction might not be as bad as FEB blood bath but should be sharp enough to teach the LONGS a lesson ,,saying that this bloody market has been sentiment driven for weeks .. so who knows .,,. All I know is that my long term investments are all closed,
