edge init

where's your edge?

no seriously though are you looking at maths for this or price action or something else?

You see, this is exactly the reason why you will never be given anything of value. Completely the wrong starting point and attitude if i may say so...

Clearly so. I can never be as serious as that. My style is more of a loose fitting kind. The goal is one of positioning and not one of predetermining the outcome as a clockwork like the hare would.

I always thought having an edge meant you had an advantage over everybody else. A casino has an advantage in that slot machines pay out less overall than they take in and the odds/green 0 on roulette means they win in the long run.

I sit at home with my crappy rigged spread betting account with a slow laptop, slow price feeds, charts with squiggly lines that promise me riches and useless news/information from various most likely unreliable sources and compare myself to professionals and banks etc that get literally everything - news and information, prices etc etc before I do and genuinely do have an edge over me and the millions of other idiots just like me.

Think about where your edge is in that.

Right, excellent point. So do you just accept that or do you do something about it? A lot of this comes down to attitude.

Trading with a bucketshop and worried. Then move. People are trading with a spread of 2 pips or more on EURUSD. They're mad! Some masochists even 3 pips. You're just giving away money. If you're day-trading with that, you're giving yourself no chance. Interactive has a spread of half a pip, with another half a pip in costs. There are others

Internet or laptop slow. Then invest. It's an important part. It doesn't cost much to have an internet connection of 50mb these days. It's fast enough. You can get a fast computer for not that much. I suspect many people will lose 100's of pounds trading, but are reticent about spoending a similar amount investing in a new computer or good speed broadband.

Even in terms of order-entry, there is LMAX that offers free multicharts, Velocity that offers a lite version of X_Trader, other brokers that do similar offerings for ninjatrader etc.

Of course you can't compete with no costs, superfast connections, squawk and interbank spreads that the institutions might have, but you owe it to your chances to at least narrow the gap as much as possible, right?

9 billion down. Neither edge nor OTC appeared to have done JP Mogan any good. The only surprising thing is they didn't wheel out a rogue trader stooge to hang the blame on.

why cos they had a loosing year? Add up all the profits for the last 15 years and tell me whether they have problems.

Goldman didn't have a losing day in the first quarter of 2010, averaging 5 million dollars per hour. That sound like an edge to me....

wasnt even a losing year, it was one trade went bad, im sure overall wont be an issue, not to mention goldmans fabled trading desk that only makes one loss a year

Sorry if this is a bit off topic/thread, but can sum1 tell me what "edge" is pls??
