Hey folks,

Can any of you give me advice on getting mixer for my PC?
Maybe some DJ software too?

I Dj'd from age 14 to 20 and love it.
I went a bit off the rails then and lost track of myself.

I am now after speaking with a few local DJ's in England (Ireland scene back in the EARLY 2000's being much different).
I understand that my music then, maybe not be THE music now... but nontheless... I need a decent mixer and software that can handle a mere dual channel style... nothing fancy... baby steps first.

I need the usual knobs, plus the fade between channel 1 and 2

It depends on what you want but pretty much everyone I know of uses VirtualDJ as the software and the preferred mixer is the Numark M6 as it has a built in soundcard that is excellent. Would you be wanting to play MP3 files or something else ?

I have heard of VirtualDJ actually...
That mixer aint bad either! Decent price too.

To be honest, the last time I played, it was CD's.
Though it probably makes more sense to play MP3, FLAC files from a laptop... I wouldn;t have to deal with skipping or damage that comes with CD's

Been on SOME session tonight!
I have downloaded my playlists, and am getting used to the software.

Just using my mouse so far, but the amount of happiness in my body is amazing!
I have not felt this since all of my main days as a DJ (age 16-19)

I wonder if this plays much of a part in what's wrong with me..?
My life ignited when I became a DJ... and declined when I stopped...

Wow....
This is so weird.... Why am I just realising this now as I type?...
I've never been able to see it this clearly before... But... I have had a few Whiskeys...
To be fair, not a huge amount, so nothing more than I would have felt before.

I know I had crazy happiness when I DJ'd, but this was also crazy happiness that kids during adolescences have anyway.... right?

This is so crazy!
I wonder if I still feel the same way in the morning when I sober up :)

Well it's the morning after, and I should be sober :) hahah

Thoroughly enjoyed lastnight!
I stayed up quite late after too!

I need to get myself a mixer and see what happens.

Dont even have to be THAT good to make a little money at this. And its money that I could put 100% of into my trading and investing accounts.

Kinda need Covid to fk off though, hahah

It is very good in my view and well supported and I am interested to know how you progress with it.

I am interested to know how you progress with it.

Me too!

I think getting a cheaper mixer would be the smarter choice however.
At least until I see if this is actually something I am going to follow through with.

A local DJ suggested this (attached) back a few months ago. But after doing some searching, I have not come across it.
I can see some cheap models, but is there anything in the cheap range that you would particularly suggest?

For now, I only need 2 channels.
I'll keep browsing

Numark are pretty good from what I hear and the key advantage to the M6 is that it has a very high quality sound card already in it.

Yeah, Numark are solid.
My old setup included Numark and Pioneer.

I like the M6, but I just think it might be a little overkill at this early stage.
Yes, it is future proof, but for now I am leaning towards: Numark M101 | 2-Channel

I am pretty sure it will be either that, or the M6
I will have to ponder for the next few hours

I have 10 days off work starting the 20th, so I would really like to have it by then

I have never connected a mixer to a computer...
Might I run into any problems?
Or anything additional I may need?

I'm assuming I need a phone to USB interface

Behringer is also very good from what others tell me and is less in price:
Behringer 302USB

The speakers I used to gig with were Behringer.
I had no complaints.

I've decided to go with the Numark M101USB | 2-Channel
Decent price, and I like the layout better than the Behringer.
It's the USB model too, so I didn't have to spend anything extra getting an RCA to USB interface.

Once it arrives, I should have everything I need to get some proper practice in

What I love most about VirtualDJ is the beat sync feature!
Holy shit!

Back in my day I had to try sync the beat manually (and when not done right, it's horrendous)... now it's just a simple click of a button!

I am about to throw this mixer through my monitor...

Have no idea how to set this mixer up using the USB connection.
I don't have RCA cables because I assumed USB would be enough to connect.

Apparently the USB is only fixed to channel 2... what use is that!!
Here you go, a 2 channel mixer that can be connected via a usb cable... but if you do that you can only use 1 channel...

I cant even get this 1 channel to work for crying out loud...

Anyone familiar with VirtualDJ software that can help me?

It says I need to buy a licence to use the mixer on it - but I can apparently use the mixer on it for free for 10mins at a time.
So I should be able to get the mixer working on the free version

Is the one sound card in my desktop enough to use a dual channel analog mixer?

Or does each channel need it's own sound card?
