Direct Access - Role Your Own

Is interactive brokers the only broker to provide API access for role-your-own mechanical trading system? Actually, from reading some of their site, it looks like even for theirs you have to install and run their trading software before you can link to them.

Are any brokers offering DLL's for direct access?
What about spread betting companies?

MyTrack / TrackTrade offer a DLL which connects you straight to their servers rather than going through the TWS client GUI as happens with IB. I am sure there are others out there, but IB and MyTrack are the ones mentioned most often.

I guess it also depends what markets and instruments you want to trade ? If you are high enough volume you may be able to go down the FIX route.
