I'm looking for a broker that offers demo accounts on MT4 that don't expire after a month. It seems unreasonable that they expire like this and is a pain for me. I think that I should be able to have one running for as long as I want. Any broker that can offer me this is going to get my custom if I (finally) decide I can be profitable. Does anyone know of any enlightened broker that will do this?

Try AAAFX. No problems and its the preferred choice of many Zulu users

Hi Arbu

From the brokers perspective a demo account is almost as expensive to run as a live account. We need to plug in live price feeds and redistribute just as much data to a demo account as we do to a live account.

A demo account is there to showcase our products and give a potentially new client the opportunity to discover the tools that each broker offers and the different functionality on the trading platform. Most spreadbet companies would consider 2 weeks plenty of time to trial the platform and allow a client enough screen time to decide whether they like the platform enough to apply for a real account.

What we don't want is someone opening a demo account for ever and scraping very expensive data over to another website or using tools free of charge for a long time. Most tools are supplied by 3rd parties who charge you on a per user basis and we need to ensure that we are only paying for people who have a live account or those who are genuinely trialling our product.

All brokers would react positively to you making contact with them and asking them to renew your demo account. They have to expire automatically so the system doesn't need to cope with an ever increasing number of demo accounts but getting your password and username renewed for another fortnight or month shouldn't be a problem.

If you're active on an account, they could be never expired but I think you're looking for a broker that you can leave your account inactive > 1 month.

Actually I don't see any broker offer it but in binary trading, I had a demo account that I opened from Feb of 2014 and it is still alive now, even I left it for 2-3 months. that's broker is Optiontrade.

OK, if there's a real cost to the broker in providing a demo account then I understand. But when I use a demo account it's not about trialling the platform as you suggest, it's about practising trading to a point where I feel that I can make money doing this damn thing.

Thanks for the suggestions for other brokers; I'll try LMAX first.

use the demo to see if you like the platform and then use the platform you like to trade real money micro stakes. the fills your orders get on a demo will not go through the same tolerance checks as real money trades and as a consequence your demo performance will be different to your real money performance.

making money on a demo is not a given that you will make money on a live cash account, the 2 accounts are not like for like. the stop loss order fills wont be slipped so much and that demo trade where you double down and double down to chase a big loss isn't something you'd have the bottle to do on a live cash account.

the 2 are very different. a demo will show you the functionality and tools and platform lay out but don't expect your amazing trading performance on a demo to carry forward to a live account when you finally make the switch.

Fair point.

I opened many demo accounts with my current broker vinson finnancials, it surely passed 1 month and I think they are still alive, but I would need to do a check and put the result here.

if you phone up a Broker you are happy with they will normally let you extend the demo with some persuasion..........talk to them and explain why you need to extend the period :smart:

100% true - so using micro accounts risking tiny money is a damn good idea once you are creaming the Demos for big bucks

I opened demo account with multiple brokers and I see a thing that if you don't trade in several weeks, it could be deactive. But if you keep trading, they could be alive forever.

There will I am sure when a not so dopey broker will not only let us mortals play on a demo account but actively help clients make money. Mostly as far as I can see no such enlightened broker yet exists. Have to be EPN I suppose not one trading against the broker.
