Cyprus brokers and the EU bank bailout haircut

I blame the spend spend SPEND borrow borrow BORROW of the left wing parties.
They don't care if they break the system. They see that as just a stage in the development of Communism and not the Chinese sort.
After a year or two in the Gulags even the red hot socialists might see the folly of their stupid policies.

Not that the right wing shouldn't shoulder their fair share of the blame - greedy, mean and hogging the lion's share for themselves.

who on earth would want to open a brokerage account in a country where corruption and controls are loose. some people just ask for problems.

Russian mafia will shoot a couple of Cypriot MPs, the rest of them will be too scared to vote it through. They've probably threatened it already.

Just had a flash bang of an idea...

Russia buys the troubled Cyrpiot banks and has full access to the books of its citizens real cash flow and gets it all back in belated accumulated taxation. :)

Wouldn't that be just sweet (y)

If Cyprus gives Russia port facilities for their naval fleet in exchange for support then the Russkis keep their low tax haven and will have an alternative port when the new Syrian govt throws them out of Tartus.

....and we can keep an even closer eye on them from our sovereign bases on the island.
Cyprus is not in NATO nor involved in PfP.

Sure, blame the communists, they are responsible for everything that happens on this planet since the soviet rev. No, not the FED. the Communists...

Serves the British right for not offering the 17 billion bailout money at the start. The socialists would have printed that out, overnight. Now the Russians have the opportunity.

Place is going to the dogs! :(

Strange how the Yanks haven't done anything.

Obama has withdrawn from the world stage, which is why Iran and North Korea can do what they like.
Fine words, no action.

I think the US is doing just great at the moment. (y)

Listen and learn from the British masters.

Soft power is a far stronger weapon than guns and bullets. :smart:

US interfering all over the world only damages the dollar and the economy. (n)

Steady as she goes... :)

Obama is fairly close to the action, right now.

The US is busting it's balls over The Middle East for an ungrateful Israel. Will they stop building Israeli Settlements on the occupied land ? Of course not.
They could settle the 50 year crisis by offering to build settlements for the displaced Arabs in return for peace.

It's a strange point of view that the Israelies have. They seem prepared to live in that situation for ever when they could, I am sure, create an Arab/Israelie nation worth having. It's only a matter of time before the Americans lose patience and that will end the friendship.

Hilarious that Obama's armour plated car complete with oxygen, medical kit and everything else that James Bond could dream of broke down and had to be rescued by a pick up truck in Israel because some bright spark had filled it up with diesel......

The US has thrown its weight about for far too long all over the world creating a lot of antipathy and although it makes a change to see a less interventionist policy, there are situations when a do nothing approach is counter productive, as with North Korea and Iran. Sometimes nipping a situation in the bud is less traumatic than waiting and hoping and seeing. The capability and willingness to apply judicious force to stop a situation getting worse prevents the sort of power vacuum that seriously aggressive nations such as those two soon take advantage of.
Obviously such US/UK intervention as in Iraq and Afghanistan are examples of just the wrong sort of interference.
Libya and the old Yugoslavia are examples of judicious intervention.

Maybe, but the world is a getting to be a dangerous place, if it was not before. Whoever starts a war has to get it right first time. Body bags are bad, but they are less bad than getting hit on your own territory. A bomb on a country the size of the UK could wipe it out. Do you trust today's politicians to get it right?

You just posted an example. Diesel in a petrol tank!

Politicians and trust and integrity and judgment rarely appear to be intimately related, but "It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried".
We Brits all knew who said that and he was great but fallible.
