Are you involved in IT business ?

I seem to come across a lot of traders on a variety of Boards
who are involved in some way with the IT business.

Is this a co-incidence or are IT professionals closet traders ?

Let us know what type of business you or your department are
involved in.

I'm sure I have left out some very important business activities.
Sorry !

It is true that i have noticed that by far the most interested parties in trading online are IT professionals.Doctors/Dentists are quite a strong group as well.

I know, oh dear,oh dear
I guess I left out housewives as well
and graduate students or even post graduate students. LOL

and God and the angels of course.
and Pat the postman.

will 'Other' be all right ? or Exec Management.
After all, instead of some company running most of your life,
now you are retired, you must be in charge ?
(sshh, we wont tell her ?)

might be worth putting in 2 categories;

1. Medical Profession
2. Not Working

only a suggestion...

seems that the make up of the poll questions can't be edited.

so dentists are out. so are vets.
most doctors think they are God don't they ?
so exec management should cover them and butchers ?

LOL

Bonsai,

Just back from a game of golf - you can do these things when you're retired, or if you've met your target in the first hour or two (I didn't!!).

Taken up your suggestion but for God's sake don't tell her! She doesn't hold with this chart trading malarky relying on instinct, which is a b**$%*r since she has done better than me over the years.

Good trading

I just knew it.
I said in my last poll that I thought 'girls' made better traders.

I see that we still have a few 'nil poin' against some categories.

Well I didnt really expect any body from a Personnel background.
They're useless at everything, wouldnt you say ?

Logistics may not be clear to some.
It includes things like Planning, Cost Engineering,Procurement, Shipping and Transport.

Didn't really expect anyone from 'Construction' either.
Can't really imagine anyone like Yosser having the temperament ?
' Gissa tip guv' ?

But the lack of any 'Marketing' people is a bit of a surprise ?
They were the first with mobile phones, always know the
dollar/sterling exchange rate and manage to get tickets to
all the best events ?
'Entrepreneurs' in the making ?

thanks to everyone who voted so far.

32 votes and 14 are involved in IT.
not enough votes to be statistically sound perhaps
and too high a proportion to be representative surely ?

Unless ?
Perhaps the office environment lends itself to IT staff having
simpler access to the internet at their desk ?
and (ab)using company resources ?
you wouldn't do that would you ? LOL

Perhaps others suffer a greater risk of being called away
in the middle of a trade ? or observed ?

Anybody else got any explanations ?

I agree Bonsai - if you're a techie you can sit behind your monitors and 'pretend' to be working, knowing that the vast majority of senior management wouldn't have a clue as to what you're really up to.

However, I believe that perhaps the main reason is that IT guys (they're never girls, are they?) can program. I would suggest that many of them started out by believing that the mechanics of trading can easily be programmed - so they set out to create a black box trading system for themselves. That would mean they could do their job with the trading program running in the background making them nice wodges of dosh. Nice idea, but reality is often so different to the dream.
