Alpari, what are they?

Hi can anyone explain to me the difference between spread betting and the Alpari system in simple terms?

I see they let you buy and sell in the same product at the same time where as far as I am aware spread betting companies dont.

I am no pro so please forgive me if this bit is not right, but if I understand right when you spread bet you are not actually buying or selling the product but betting on its move so how does this differ with the Alpari system, are you actually involved in the product somehow?
