38,000 names on boiler room scam list

The FSA has recovered a list of 38,000 people who are on a boiler room scam 'mugs list'. It seems this list was shared between boiler room scams in order to target victims who had already fallen for other scams.

EDIT:
These boiler rooms are operated outside of UK jurisdiction, thus the FSA can't legally do anything about redress for the scammed.

The best they can do is maintain a list of boiler rooms that investment sites and financial advisers can make their clients aware of. This raises awareness, but that's about all.

Key thing is: if you're cold-called, it's pretty much a scam.

Bit disappointed by the letter.
"If you think you have been contacted by a boiler room, call the dedicated, secure customer helpline 0845 602 2185 set up by the FSA and the Police and quote “Operation Domingo”. The helpline is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Please select Option 2 for the investment team."
