I'm guessing most players, big and small, fully expect SNB to do as they say and defend 1.200. But the way I see it too many players get so caught up in the wording of announcements they they fail to see what is really happening. My opinion is SNB is not sitting on the bid @ 1.200 waiting for all comers. Their idea of "defending" the rate may be to let all the retail punters wipe out below the rate then jump in and push the rate over the intended target. Ultimately we don't really know for sure, but it's probably fatal to get intwined in the dictionary definition of whatever wording is used.

Good answer wankypete. Right now every retail trader guru, every spread bet advisory firm, every monglite knowledgeable person is going to be studying this in depth spouting away that this trade is a gift so load up the lots and go for 100 pips at least. After all they're never going to let the price drop below 1.9950 are they?

That's because the pair is barely moving. Average range is only about 35 pips per day. Not much risk to them at all.
