Hi all,

We have a rep amongst us for Metatrader4 platform and I know a few use it (myself included at times), so I figured I'd kick off a thread for anyone to discuss and ask questions regarding their platform.

News

On the current platform I have, I am able to recieve news headlines. I cannot though, recieve the story behind it when clicking on the link.

Is there any way of activating this in order to recieve the story. It worked for about a month a little while back, then it just stopped and came up 'empty' every time.

Hi Chris,

Its a usual practice of our clients. To demo traders they give headlines only. If you will open a real account, you will receive full news. But some brokers give full news to demo users too.

I suppose that in your case, broker just changed his mind about news distribution and began to give demo-traders headlines only.

Wow, it's excellent to have a rep from MetaTrader on the forum, I use it and think it's a very good charting package.

Thanks Lenar!

gmt shift

not sure if this is the right place to ask, but i'm never 100% sure how to set indicators in meta which have an input for gmt shift, such as cam pivots.

Eg at the moment we're on BST, which is GMT+1, but my meta time is 1 hour ahead of UK time, so this is gmt +2. So what would the input be for gmt shift ?, & does it need to be altered as the UK clocks change. Any help much appreciated.

Suggestion

Hi Lenar;

You have a lot of users on Metatrader and I think it's a great package. I am wondering if you would give an option to make the bars thicker as required as I use bars, not Candles. And would you give the following time frames also? 2m, 3m 4m ? If you were to impliment these options, you would have a serious charting package.

Kind regards Sebastian

Looks like you are speaking about Custom Indicators. We can not comment any features of custom indicators, which were developed by other man - we just don know how its code looks like and which logic was realised in it. So you should ask the author of the Custom Indicator about its options.

Hi VSA,

Customizable bar thikness: for now, as you may know, there is no such option. And i dont know when it will be realized, maybe it will never realized at all. But we will think about it. Exotic timeframes (i mean, all time fremes except of already built-in) will not be realized defenedly. But you can use Period Converter script (included to standard package) which will allow you to make any timeframe. The only requirement for this is to have data of lower period. For example, if you want to have M3 chart, you need M3; for H2 you may use H1 standard data.

Bit confused over this - is it possible to get 8 hr (480 minute) charts on the free demo account?

I appreciate I could just visually blend two 4 hr bars, but I was hoping to use actual 8 hr charts...

Thanks for any input, anyone.

Hi Sword,

Yes, of course you can use H8 charts on any account (real or demo, no matter) with Period Converter. But there is no standard H8 timeframe.

Thank you. I've looked around the software, but cannot see how you do this, or where 'Period Converter' is in the menus, etc.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

Many thanks!

Does anyone know of a Metatrader FX broker who allows accounts to be denominated in GBP ??

Hi Sword,

Period converter is a Script. You can find it in Navigator window - Scripts section.

Hi Lenar,

Is there a way to, any plans to or can I suggest the possibility of having a simple MS paint esque drawing ability?

It would be good to be able to draw a line showing a triangle or double bottom etc without it stretching forward or back till the screen runs out. You can use trendlines but after a few setups the screen is full of lines and is a mess.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

MS Paint - no, there is no such plans.

Triangle is a standard line study, check the Shapes section in Insert menu.
Also, if a lot of trend lines makes mess, you should uncheck Ray checkbox in trendline properties (select trend - run TrendLine Properties command of context menu - select Parameters tab).

Cheers Lenar,

Unchecking the ray checkbox does just what I was after thanks.

One more thing Lenar,

I have my pivots via a custom indicator but on change of week, it shows a gap for the weekend and therefore Mondays pivots mean nothing and I have to calculate them. Is there a way of removing the weekend 'gap' so the indicator then calculates Fridays/Mondays pivots correctly (instead of the nonexistent flat weekend data)?

Chris,

on our site there is an article "Free-of-Holes" Charts. Its intended especially for this question.
