.....Even when the sun is shining, i can't avoid the lightening.....

You know the feeling, when it seems you can't do right for doing wrong, when everything within your trading plan works well in testing but when you trade it with real money, your trading approach seems to go pear-shaped etc. etc......

Anyway, besides a quirky title for a thread, I thought this might be a good general place where -

regardless of product traded, and timeframe traded on -

we can gather to admit to our current trading short-coming/s, in the hope that feedback offered by fellow traders may help us find a quick positive resolution....

Major shortcoming for tyros which used to happen to me was not sticking to the plan. Nowadays I find that when my system / plan / rules tells me what to do, sometimes gut feeling says something else.

In my early days i learned to stick to my "rules" because at that level of experience it was the best thing to do. I now find strangely, that to a degree, gut feeling is now part of my system and acts as an overwatching alarm etc. I think this must be due to the subconscious doing its work by looking at the charts etc and doing processing & assessment behind the scenes. I don't think it's something you can deliberately learn - it just comes with practice, practice, practice.

So perhaps the lesson is to know yourself and change your rules as you change. Don't run before you can walk. Always, always when it all starts going wrong, stop and think and review. Find yourself in a hole? - stop digging and whatever you do, don't get a bigger shovel. It took me a number of years to learn all that. :):)

I had a strong buy signal at the close of Wednesday, I did not go long QQQQ and missed yesterday's big move.

I think the reason for this failure of mine is reading the newsletter of a so called -- self-pronounced -- expert in the markets who called for an immediate reversal to the downside and another leg down to new lows.

My shortcoming: I read stuff people publish over the internet and deliver for free. Today, I'm activating all 10 spam filters I have downloaded in the past.

I try to keep to the most simple KISS plan that I can.

Keeping to them is difficult, enough. Keeping to those complicated ones is an impossibility, for me.

I read novels. I figure that the news letters have as much a hit/miss ratio as I do!

re: Why does it always....

clearly, its because you lied when you were seventeen.

Never mind.

You will be able to see clearly when its gone.
You will see all obstacles in your way.
Its gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny day.
(but not this weekend, as all Bank Holidays are drenched: in fact, the OEDs definition of a Bank Holiday is a downpour of biblical proportions.)
