Good morning, I just wonder if somebody has experience trading with CMC Market-is it the same as the others? Does it reflects the real stock prices? Thanks

i've had an account, actually, it's still on with some funds in it but i haven't traded on it for a while. it's nothing fancy, but i didn't really like their marketmaker software because:
1. takes a loooong time to boot up
2. server connections tend to be a bit unstable at times
3. the interface can be a bit unintuitive
4. you'll probably find more competitive rates elsewhere

that being said, a few good things they did try:
1. a social network thing you can access
2. they have a live chat support within the software, response's pretty fast, but how useful that may be when the operator probably doesn't have control over any technical issues is up to your own judgement
3. their customer service so far is friendly
4. they do try to hold a few seminars that can be useful for beginners

as a market maker model, they do reflect the real stock prices on their cfds and all if that's what you are asking. but expect an outage here and there, which can be frustrating when you're trying to make a trade.

hope that helps, and check around.

i personally rate them

their marketmaker "fat client" software is close to fully weighted professional trading system (the web trading software is sh1te and only for complete novices) - e.g. on the client, you open orders and then place an order in opposing direction to close it, so can be a bit cumbersome for beginners.

fast execution and great charting package with multiple screen setups

if you need to whinge at a dealer, you simply click a little button which opens up a real-time chat window with the trading desk - so great for when you're not able deal by voice (i.e. when you're skiving off at w*rk trading)

I have been using CMC marketmaker CFD version for my analysis and trading - Great Tool. Charting is very good.

Even if you not going to trade from it, still get an account with CMC just for the marketmaker software to do analysis.

however when you want to withdraw funds it can take up to 5days!!!

I disagree - there're much much better charting tools out there. MM's interface can be so laggy it's not suitable to do analysis from.

Little Mog - could you point us in the right direction to these better tools???

Thanks

There's so much out there - I might not know all of them, you can start by browsing the software section of the forums here. Many other brokers offer better platforms imvho, such as tradestation. Ninjatrader's also worth a look. I have heard a lot about Interactive Brokers, though they might not suit a new guy starting out.

I have stuck with eSignals' EOD service for a bit, before branching out to write my own charts (I'm a developer by profession). Sierracharts is also a good tool to start with, according to a friend but I haven't really give it a go. For FX many have said Metatrader's a good bet. If you also employ stats frequently and have some programming background, you might also want to give R a go.

I believe some of these tools might charge some nominal fee of 30-40 bucks per month for the data but I feel if you tried it and it frees you to focus more on your analysis and trading, it's a pitisome fee to pay. You could still stick with CMC if you want, which I assume might be the platform you're on given you posted here but up till last month, I just wasn't impressed with MM. Maybe they might upgrade it in future but so far, it's not really intuitive or extensible compared to a more dedicated tool or a broker with a more dedicated platform.

All in all, if CMC's MM works for you though, stick with it for executing your trades. But I don't think it hurts to take a look elsewhere for charting and analysis software.

My little 2 cents.

the cmc threads in the spread betting forum are all full of negitive reviews, i was gona sign up with them but from the reviews they look like fruads. people have reported positions closing and opening themselves in many of the cmc threads here.

don't believe a word of it personally

most of those posters you mention on here believe Harry Potter is real and are mullered on special brew by market open - they couldn't see their own hand in triplicate in front of their face(s)

so cmc is working fine for you?

what are you trading with them? cfds or spread bets

cmc is fine for longer term trading styles, dont go anywhere near them if you trying to trade several times a day with tight stops and small targets.

They lost a lot of clients when they switched their charts from prorealtime to an in house charting packageand thats when I stopped using them as well.

I think IG use the prorealtime charts, very clear and easy to use.

agree with that one

I don't have account there so can tell nothing about quality. However I can tell you that many of brokers use tehir price feed for own clients. I know at least 3 FX brokers (medium size) that have their accounts at CMC and use their price. So there must be something with it.
