Was wondering which companies were actually working all the time today . I heard that quite a few were down or weren't taking trades for large parts of the day.

Name and shame those who couldn't cope and praise those who could on what must be one of the busiest days ever for most of them.

CMC seemed to be working when I considered taking my losses on my Woolworths trade. To be frank, with the market that we had today a spreadbetting company would be mad to be taking on serious positions. I made about thirteen hundred in the opening, almost immediately lost fifteen hundred afterwards, and so on for the rest of the day, which I ended around two grand up (minus around four hundred in commission). In a market that daftly volatile you'd be nuts, as a spread betting company, to maintain a narrow spread as you have no way of hedging it in the underlying.

Advice: Spread betting is not a good way to take on a long term trade. That idiots like me do it should be taken as further evidence of this.

Why do you day that Spreadbetting is not a good way to trade a long term trading system? I thought that trading less frequently would reduce the impact of the cost of the spread.

It is better for him to answer but I would suggest that the overnight charge is expensive and/or because they will take you out on your stop or margin call you during the night as they can quote you any price they want. The underlying real market ask/bid price that streams out of stock exchanges is just a gimmick to pull in customers into their spreadbetting game - legally the bid/ask price they quote you can be any random value.
