hi guys,

I am looking to move to London from NYC in a couple of months time to continue my trading career. I am currently trying to get an apartment.....
I was wondering if any londoner here knows a nice bit of place to live in? I am currently looking at the Canada Water area, they seem like they have some new and nice apartments there.
Anyone has any suggestions at all, please do Post ! thanks

How about Chester, near Harrods?

if i was you i'd stay in NYC.Lived in london and moved out of the city and the country.LDN's too congested, expensive and believe me its only good for the odd visit or two.If your heart is set then move to the absolute periphery or to the town around.Forget about driving too. :cheesy:

London has a third world transport system, so makes a lot of sense to get an apartment near where you'll be working to cut the commute. If you'll be based in Canary Wharf then Canada Water is fine, otherwise you'd be better off more central. Kensington and Chelsea have been pretty much colonised by ex-pat US bankers if you want to feel at home... depending on your budget. And as Cabrito says, forget about owning a car...

What exactly do you want from your environment AlienTrader?
Unless your going to be working locally, Canary Wharf / Canada water is a bit far out of central london transport wise and pretty dead on the social scene.

Anywhere in SW London. Chiswick to Twickenham range is by far the nicest part. If you are young however and intend to be out to all hours socialising you may find Hammersmith/Chelsea/Knightsbridge a better bet.
You may be working in Canary Wharf but you really do not want to live there. It is well served by transport network.

...ealing mate.....i believe apart from brick lane(where spices origante from) it has more curry houses per capita than any other area in london....or maybe thats just wishful thinking..i seem to remember the odd plot of green land also...think they may still be there...been so long since ive seen anything other than pixels in front of me... mark j

you may find the curry houses around whitechappel to be better than brick lane which imo is going down hill due to the competition - lower price - lower quality.

also southhall has some good places (as im sure you know!!)

yep. i live in barnes. i can be in the west end in 30mins, or the city in 40.

it still has a bit of a rural feel (esp with duck pond :D) around the area if you want to get away from the smoke.

Ah, Barnes ... nice place to live Mr. Chan. Many years ago I used to train with one of the rowing clubs nearby. And although its a long time since I lived in South West London I agree with all these comments about the general area.

thanks guys for the replies, i have been checking out the south west area and it does seem like a nice place to live in. will certainly be looking at the area in barnes. I gather that its mostly houses there and not flats?
thanks!

Highbury and Islington

Hi,

Good post! Looking to move also from rural scenario into central London. Was considering Islington - anyone any thoughts? Looking for lots of bars / restaurants etc... My sister lives in Barnes, nice place. Not exactly rocking though, depends what you are after I guess.

If anyone 21 - 30 is reading this then please make a few suggestions regarding living within easy commuting distance of EC1, EC2, EC3.

Thanks,

JSC

How about Shoreditch JSC? All the nightlife/bars/restaurants plus a walk to work. I lived for a while in Spitalfields, also worth a look although not as 'happening'.
