this is going to seem like a stupid question to most, but it is something that i havent been able to find a reliable resource on for a while. my attempts have been haphazard at best.

im looking for a resource that allows me to scan various indexes to find possible trading candidates within those indexes. for instance, i would like to monitor the $XAU while i monitor 6 gold stocks attached to that index on an intraday level. i would also like to be able to not just see exactly what the index is composed of, but to be able to scan and modify my search of the index based off of volume, volatility, etc...

im sure that there is something very basic out there that can do this for me with a few clicks, but i just havent found it yet.

any help would be appreciated...

You might be able to find something here, not sure how much of it is free though.

Doesn't yahoo and msn have some sort of free screening tools. Here's another site I think has screeners, again not sure what is free and what is subscription

Sector indices tend to be fairly small and select compared to all the stocks that would fall into the sector catagoriy. Since you seem to be interested more in the Index components you could simply complie watchlists eg;http://finance.yahoo.com/q/cp?s=^XAU
Almost forgot, Marketwatch has its own screener also.
