Hi kasran64,
Welcome to T2W.
Your question isn't entirely clear (to me, anyway). Are you asking . . .
- how to distinguish between a trending market and a rangebound one?
- how to filter instruments so that they are grouped according to whether they're trending or rangebound?
- for strategies to trade trending and rangebound markets respectively?
- none of the above: something completely different?
Tim.

Okay, I'm clear now.
Filtering Instruments
I assume you're wanting to filter equities as that's the only group of instruments that so large that to do so manually would be too time consuming? If you trade FX or futures etc. then your best bet is simply to scroll through your charts and eyeball them. Most software packages have some basic canned scan to help find trending stocks. If you don't subscribe to any particular charting package, then there are basic free ones on the net. The ones I know of are U.S. centric - which may not be of use to you if you trade the Indian and Asian markets. Anyway, this will give you a feel for what I'm on about:

Strategies
There are lots of strategies right here on T2W that could be applied to both types of market. Have a search and come back if you're struggling to find anything.
Tim.
