Can't speak for MT4 but no problems with Atom-based netbook (Win XP 1gb ram) using a web-based brokerage for position/swing trading. The quality of your internet connection is probably more important. The small netbook screen can be annoying but won't prevent you trading.

Forgot to say - I was referring to a 9" screen (I was an early adopter) - these seem to have gone out of fashion in favour of slightly larger and i think that's for the best. (Though you can almost get the 9" in your back pocket - useful when travelling sans car).
I believe the latest Atom processors are much faster so I would think an 11" screen model would be adequate just for trading - depending on your style of course.. But if you want to do other tasks also, on the same computer simultaneously, then I'd look at something with a higher performance.

LOL, sorry adfn, had a chuckle to myself reading this thread...(not re. the netbook, my ickle HP has been a sound little beast that I take out everywhere with me), I was chuckling due to the question being so you; Gonna do one thing, then completely change your mind, any thoughts that this..ahem...indecision might reflect in your trading results?

My Samsung will run most trading packages. E-signal, metastock, Ninjatrader etc. Can't see why MT4 would be any different. It does tend to run slower when on batteries instead of mains power. I guess thats a power setting that i could change.
For me its more an issue of screen real estate. To see more than 1 chart at once would be impossible without having to squint.
Not sure i would trust one of those USB stick modem thingies either for trading on the move. Get the stops in at the same time as entering the trade i say !

I used Acer Aspire One, nice little computer, but for me the screen was to small (not enough data displayed for me - I like to follow one pair through many time frames), now that I have a larger screen, about 4 times as much data fits on the screen and is very nice to work on. But to do basic things on it was OK, 1 Gb, older Atom processor, Xp, MT4 was working nice. Of course, it all depends what you want to do. I managed to crash MT4 on my home i7, 8Gb beast, lol.
