Someone mentioned recently they were planning on moving from the UK to continental Europe (sorry, can't remember who).

Are there financial/tax advantages as a full-time trader to being based other then in the UK?

Is there any downside from a trading perspective?

Apart from quality of life etc. (depending on where you intend to be based) there are I would imagine, similar tax laws so am interested to know what, if any, the benefits might be.

I know that income tax in France for example, is higher than in the UK.

Well, taxwise (+ soc.sec deductions) there are differences: CH depending to canton you move at, Slovacia ( just 40 miles off Vienna) 19 %, but most recommendable Italy 12,5%.

Just imagine living in rural italy and paying such lovely taxes!
