I have a subscription to Tradestation 7. Infact the people at Tradestation were very happy to give me an account even
tho I am in the UK. I Currently I have an equities account and
a futures account both open since end of April.

If you want to open an account dont bother with the UK
agents. Infact they'l probably try and rip you off by selling you
TS 2K.
The fact is that TS2K was a standalone SW. Once you bought
it you could get a datafeed from different vendors. TS7 is now directly linked and managed by Tradestation who supply
data and the brokerage services, cutting out the agents, data
feed vendors and brokerage services.

Can you get a version of Tradestation purely for backtesting for a one off fee?

JonnyT, Tradestation is available either with a brokerage
account for $99.99 p/m or w/o a trading account for $199.00
p/m for back testing.

I think they do prorata the payment so if you start a subscription
during the last 2 weeks you end up paying 2 weeks worth.
However you will have to tell them before hand that you want to
cancel the account.

In answer to your question you cant however do it for
a one off fee.

There is no TS5. But anyway I am pretty sure you cant. However
if you are interested in TS2K you can probably pick that up for
2-300 dollars (2nd hand and pucker copy). Have a look round.

If you want to backtest your best bet is to get TS2000i as this allows you to download US data FOC going back years. There are two ways to do this either get a second hand copy which I have seen advertised at very good prices or check out this link which I am sure will also be able to give you what you want. I have TS2000i and it is very good. To someone like yourself who has code writing capability it is a gift. You can write your own studies, backtest them and even sell them, I have seen some TS backtested studies going for over $10K.

I agree Trader333's opinion about using TS2K. However I would
be *VERY* wary of sending any money to the people who own
that Traders4Traders site because:
1) The owners are in Russia.
2) You have to send your money using Western Union. Any credible supplier of SW will use credit card which will give you
protection for your transaction. Failing that some
guaranteed service such as paypal. Therefore there is a high
probability that you will lose your money. I have read about
many cases where this has happened.
2) The SW will be PIRATED. Each TS2K SW has a special key
associated to it. You can buy add on indicators and SW for TS2K
and they are usually designed to be locked to this key. Commonly
the authors ask for this key before hand and you will get caught
if the SW is pirated and has a key which may have been used by
many other people.
3) You wont get any other goodies such as manuals.

Besides traders2traders are selling for $110 and you can
probably get a pucker second hand copy for just a little
more than double that. I recently bought an original TS2K
by advertising on www.elitetrader.com for $250. This
included CD's manuals, videos, books. Thats value!

If T4T are pirates, well I didnt know that and will delete the link, maybe you could do the same on the copy of my post that you have put up. When I bought TS2000i direct from Omega, there was very little in the way of manuals as most of it is via the software.

It looks like the only way will be a second hand copy but again this will have been registered to someone else and is not transferable.
