What actions have traders taken (if any) as a result of the sudden events in Georgia?

I am concerned that markets have not had the chance to react fully to this yet and, US especially, traders will have had all weekend watching dramatic footage on CNN. I therefore anticipate an over-reaction on Monday to the conflict, even if the situation doesn't deteriorate on the ground and have therefore -
* placed tight stops on my longs on UK equities
* placed a buy order on gold above its recent low - worth noting this has just hit its 2008 low for a re-test: this could become instant support.

I am doing nothing on oil as I am not sure supplies form the region are globally significant, and in any cae, Russia might step up its own production for miltary use.

Thoughts welcome.

I don't think it's the supplies of oil from the region that is significant rather the oil pipeline running through the region to the west. It's reported that the Russians targeted it yesterday but missed. It doesn't as yet carry a significant amount to the west but the psychological impact of it being put out of use on the markets could be catastrophic in the short term.

My actions were to lose money by panicing.

This situation has, in my opinion, the potential to get a hell of a lot worse than the markets have priced in. Therefore I predict an under-reaction today, if there's any. Keep on for a couple more days and you might suddenly see things snap.

Oh, and now the russian peacekeepers have issued an ultimatum in abkhazia as well...

What an atrocity in this day and age, there clearly are a bunch of lunatics not comprehending what fire they are playing with running things in some countries.

Of course, Mr. Bush has sent a clear signal to the world that atavistic policies based on an evolutionary throwback to the barbaric habits of our ancestors on trees are perfectly fashionable again.

Unbelievable.

Two of my 7 stops have been hit but the gold buy order has not. Glad to see those 2 go if they can't keep pace with the market on a reasonably good day. FTSE up a healthy amount even though the news from Georgia not much better. Hope New York not in a panicky mode this pm.
