not a single spammer on this thread gets banned or even gets their posts removed. And this is all over the forum anymore yet informational threads or respectable members get hacked. Sad state of affairs here.

while i agree that there's lots presently all over the forum, i still find stuff that should have been found long ago and binned. but i do know you can't find it all. reports help, and the modding team welcome them. but i also know that the vast majority of stuff doesn't get reported. so if they don't get proactive and look for it, it will stay.

having said that things look more content driven, rather than guideline driven. ie if there's a chart in the spammers post likely as not it'll get to stay, including sig and post links etc, even though they've been deleted several times previously, or scammers get allowed several threads for extended periods because there's trading chat and charts, but nobody actually goes check anything, join some dots people lol

a more recent example would be that boomerang spammer, he even claimed/alluded an admin had told him it was now ok to post blatant adverts, well he did have a chart in his post. if any truth in that i'd like to know who

and pb still banned, so i guess even short term banning means an age these days

Well he is now. Mods have been very thin on the ground recently and it's not been possible to do much searching through threads. Makes the report button even more important.

I stopped reporting posts anymore except on a rare occasion. I found it mostly useless for some of the reasons you stated. Also, I can't count how many times I reported a multi-posting link spammer and included all the info in the spam report only to find that the link in the 1 post I reported was removed, all other posts and links by that spammer were untouched. Not always but often.

I'm surprised by that - sometimes I guess just the reported post would be dealt with but I generally look at other posts by the culprit to se if those are ok. Thanks for the info.

yeah i stopped for the same reason, that the post reported was actioned to that post only, but nobody looked further than their nose, and the rest of the postings were left up untouched, even if the poster was banned. or they just plain selectively ignored the report. post reporting got boring then, and believe me i reported loads a day.

selfishly i find it now more amusing to poke fun and abuse at the spammers, have you noticed the hidden link spammers have started biting back (of sorts) what joy the boomerang ad spammer was well and truly hooked and reeled in

Jon, I know you are a volunteer and I respect that so don't take this personally, but I reported every spammer on this thread at the time they posted and as of this morning they were all still here. There are plenty more of the same all over the threads.

What does "actioned" mean? When i reported multi-posting link spammers and all that was done is remove the link from 1 post (even when the entire post SHOULD have been removed) then that is actioned, but is that proper? That's the main issue here.

I have a question. Often I see "post edited by xxxxx: removed link" or something similar. I'm going to guess you or someone else can edit posts without that line being inserted at the bottom of the post??

I like Barjon but I wonder at his ever decreasing posts and ask myself " Does he want the job, now, or would he prefer to hand over to other, younger, people?" Barjon needs help and Sharky & Co should review the mod situation with more attention. Elections every four years would be a good idea to get new blood into circulation, otherwise the site will get stuck in a rut. Well, it's stuck in a rut, already.

Whilst I dont like to see members banned by heavy handed moderators I try to take something positive from the situation. If a member has been banned its usually a reliable indication they had something worth saying. Ironically its a very reliable metric !

conversely, if a member has won a t2w award 4 years in succession its generally a reliable indicator that they have nothing worth saying.

its a bit like technical analysis really, does this oversold oscillator mean i should buy or sell

Moved relevant posts to feedback and a new thread.

Not completely up to date since I've been away for a month or so and can't really say what's happened to your reports during late March ana April other than they've all been looked at.

In general, though you might judge someone a spammer for one reason or another, primarily a link in their post, their posts might be quite harmless so far as the guidelines are concerned once the link is removed. In such a case the content would remain and action confined to removing the link.

At the moment it is not the case that vendors' post are removed just because they are vendors.

It's a real shame that you have given up reporting posts since such reports are the main weapon in trying to keep the boards clean.

You'll be able to claim that you didnt recieve a single complaint from any member, and bask in your own glory.

I must admit that I rarely report posts these days for the same reasons a) maybe a link gets deleted but the spam remains b) nothing happens at all c) its far lulzier not to.

I suppose the truly sickening aspect is reading through a 2-3 year old resurected spam thread and seeing posts from genuinely good contributors with "banned" displayed under their names, amongst a see of blatent spam. I know only too well from my own circumstances that there are individuals who are given modertaing powers who are not suitable candidates to be trusted with that responsibiity. I'm not naming names, I think anyone whose been aroud long enough knows the score.

Its great lulz, but even I find it a little sad at times, I'm sure that most genuine members who visit the site for reasons other than teh lulz are horrified by the situation.

Yes, you could be right about an election being an hilarious event given the recent Lord Mayor's fiasco. US police chiefs are politically elected. I don't like their justice system much, so that might not be a good idea. Nevertheless, this site needs to be kept more disciplined and old dogs don't learn new tricks.

You know as well as me that however well respected they may be, people cannot ride roughshod over the guidelines and expect their reputation to protect them from the consequences. They may get rather more leeway than others but eventually it has to catch up with them.

It would be hilarious, but sadly I dont think its going happen. t2w would be subject to the same electroral apathy, but also wide open to electoral fraud. All those multi nics getting behind the lulz party candidate

The real problem is that most of the top level lulzers, can do a pretty good impression of being knowledgable traders, and being fair and even handed (mainly because they are) so it wouldnt take much to convince the uninitiated that they would be a sensible choice. Of course once in office, their true colours would emerge, and they'd be pursuing a lulz agenda.

i think pete was meaning that reports he made in 2011 weren't actioned and that spam he reported back then were still there today. so it'll have to be looked at back further than a month or 2, try 6 to 7. i think that was the crux of things?

although (rightly) the posts have been moved from their original position. as such new readers of this may lose context as to the age of the offending spammage that was not removed due to the reporting, and only removed today due to a little uproar over the issue.

was there a tech glitch? maybe that should be looked at.
