Did anyone attend the FXCM seminar in London earlier this week, with Richard Farleigh as the speaker?

It seems that he has been a very successful trader and from what he says he still dabbles in the the trading world.

I found it interesting with what he was saying about his method of trading, such as buying in at the beginning of a trend and getting out once the trend has started to reverse, with these decisions being backed up by strong fundamental analysis.

Also he didn't believe in technical analysis, as well as not relying on time frames for the length of having trades open. There was not a single chart displayed during the seminar of which I thought was quite noticeable, compared with other seminars I've attended as others have always been riddled with charts, lines, indicators etc etc.

He did seems like pretty down to earth guy that worked his way up from a humble background, as well as giving an example of when a trade went badly wrong and explained why.

What are your thoughts on this, I'm know Ive only mentioned a few of the main points there is probably much more I haven't mentioned.

Isn't he one of the dragons in the Dragon's Den TV programme ?

I'd love to be able to buy at the beginning of a trend as well. So easy to say, but next time you see him ask him how he knows it's the beginning of a trend and not a retracement or a fake out move.

After the fact it's easy to know it was the start but real time, in the now and present, for most people it's a pipe dream because what they fail to realise or respect is the in built perversity of the markets, ie they'll normally do everything possible to fake and shake out people before making the real move.

Same with 'getting out once the trend has started to reverse'. Markets are seldom textbook so again they'll try to shake people with good positions with what looks like 'a trend starting to reverse'. Then, bam, price is off to the races again with the majority not on board......

Yes, he was the Australian guy that appeared on the show a few years ago.

As for some of the other comments, I know its pretty much obvious, however it was taken a bit out of context, I did point out that this was in conjunction with strong fundamental analysis, as opposed to technical analysis (of which is all I've seen elsewhere). Seriously though I know its sarcasm, but it really doesn't help.

There must have been by my estimation about 450-500 people there, so was I really the only one on the T2W forums that was there, I thought there might have been a few more. So I guess I was wrong.

Also I made the mistake of not taking a notebook and pen as I'm sure I could have given a lot more details.

Please bear in mind I am still a newbie to all this trading malarkey and have only been going a couple of months, so any free seminar that I can get to, I will most certainly make the effort to get to, even if I only get one golden nugget of advice, it would have been worth going.

Andy,
He's got a book out that outlines his approach in some detail:
Taming The Lion
I read it a few years ago and quite enjoyed it as an interesting trading tale, but didn't get much from it in terms of applying his ideas to my day-to-day trading activities. But you might!
Tim.

Hey folks, I went along to this seminar. It was really good for newbies and ultimately gave some animation to the words in the book.... He came across as a really down to earth guy and had some good points to make. For those that missed the seminar then the values are in the book but you of course miss his great presentation skills.
