Can anyone recommend a thorough, free online financial u.s. news source?

These are 2 realtime sources, however it depends on your area of interest.
Both sources provide 'realtime' announcements of US economic reports, however to some extent they have an entertainment component in their programming. The cnn source is the sound feed from the tv broadcast, changing from Europe to US at 6am (?) EST.
A couple of the fx brokers provide a free version of the Thomson Squawk Box which is primarily forex related news tho economic releases aren't updated for several minutes so you might check-out brokers to find out what news source they provide.
Believe you can setup Google and Yahoo to receive news emails.

Hey,

I use www.prudentbear.com . Excellent resource for a variety of news including economic, financial, market data! It lists only important news that you need to know! Also BLoomberg.com, probably the best out there! If you just want to see business news, Google Business News is fine. I am subscribed to The Economist, Money Week, Shares and Investor's Chronicle. I try to get a variety of information!

Also keep an eye on politics! It affects the markets allot. One clear example was the middle east situation (Israel and Lebanon conflict).
