Thought we could use this thread to record any random generosity we might happen to do to brighten up the world and the strangers around us. Ideally, these could be amusing or creative such as paying for the toll on the car behind you, but good old fashioned helping an old lady cross the road counts too :D

I'll kick it off with something fairly low key - I'd got several hours left on the meter parking ticket I'd got at for my weekend shopping. When I was leaving, a car pulled in to take my place as I pulled out, I reversed and gave the slightly surprised driver my ticket. Much better than tossing it on the floor (y)

I always try to give way to pedestrians when driving round the town.

However, on the motorway.....................................

A couple of weeks ago, an elderly lady in front of me at the local co op was enquiring about the cost of a large growbag for her tomatoes. I offered to carry it to her car for her as it was obvious she wouldn't be able to manage on her own. "Oh, I don't have a car anymore dear" she said, "but I only live just up the street". So, I offered to carry the bag home for her, at which point she thanked me warmly and then turned to the lady on the check out and said "in which case, I'll have another two bags please dear". Old people, I ask you! At least I know where she lives so I can take her the invoice from my osteopath when I receive it.
Tim.

That's not the old dear who roams the pavements on one of these electric scooters like a crazed F1 driver is it ?

I helped an old guy up yesterday in Sainsbury's - he had slipped on a wet floor.

Would it not have been more kind to give him the phone number for Injury Lawyers 4U ? :)

It always amazes me that almost every household has a lawnmower in my few streets.

Considering it hardly takes more than 2 hours per garden, once a week, or once every two weeks, thats a lot of mowers sitting idle. From an ecologocal point of view, I wonder why people dont just have about two per street, and borrow it for a couple of quid per afternoon from the owner.

Anyway, I sometimes mow my neighbours lawn. EDIT: when I have done mine, since I have the mower out already.

(Hope you guys had a good morning. GBPUSD and EURJPY behaved perfectly. Nice upmoves, with at least 3 pullbacks each before the monster move up.)

Join Me!

Did anyone ever read the book Join Me by Danny Wallace? He started this whole idea of performing random acts of kindness to strangers. Very funny read!

What did i do that was nice today? Well I attended a safety lecture and didn't heckle - poor guy has now justified his job for another 5 years it seems! :)

I also relieved a colleague of some biscuits - saving him a heart attack!

Hmmmm......

You can stand under my umbrella (Ella ella eh eh eh)

P**sing down with rain on my way to a recent night out, and luckily I had a £1 umbrella handy. Two attractive young girls who didn't have an umbrella, pleaded with me for me to help them in their hour of need and offer them shelter as they walk from A to B. It seems that - if their hair got wet, it would have been the end of the world as they knew it!
One of the girls was rather persuasive, as she kept sticking her breasts into my arm (don't you just love it when women do this :D). What choice did I have - they won me over, and onwards we walked. It didn't lead to any gain for me (besides the breasts in the arm thing), other than spending 10 minutes or so in very close proximity to & having a laugh with two hot 19 year olds (in hot pants ;):innocent:).

You have a heart of gold JT, this story has shown me a better side to humanity and brought a tear to my eye!

BTW - GJ's bang on, thats a GREAT return on £1!

What do you mean 'beside the breasts in the arm thing'?

JT - WTF do you want for a quid mate? I personally think you did pretty well out of that. ;)

(plus it's not often the British weather leads to something nice). personally I think THEY were the ones perpetrating the random acts of kindness matey ;)

GJ

Probably so :). It was a refreshing few minutes for me. God they were fit !

They had at first asked me if they could have or buy my umbrella. I told them it coast £1, they offered me £4. I told them I'd also rather remain dry (than make £3 profit ), but if I had a spare brolly or if i had reached my destination, I'd have given them it for nowt, as they obviously valued it more than me. Yep, I did alright there for a quid (y).

Two summers back, some dude had just been given a parking ticket in Newquay, as he'd genuinely thought night-time parking was free - the signs in the car park were confusing/minimal/easy to miss. I had a valid ticket, which I no longer needed, and so freely gave it to him (for free - he hadn't asked) so that he could plead his case.:innocent:.

I put the loo seat down the other day. And actually put my dirty washing in the wash basket (I think) one day last week.

Liberation of Iraq.

ohhh and i think China will liberate Tibet from $4 trillion dollars worth of oil buried in its soil, soon enough, bless em. troof..... how do ya like them apples ?

I'm cooking tea again tonight (curry) yipppeeeee.....

Wouldn't this undermine the competence of the parking attendant who issued the ticket in good faith and was just doing his job ?

It could be argued that effectively you were an accessory to fraud :)

Prove it ;)!

Nah, he just needed to say - well I had my ticket on display, but it had slidden out of view on the dashboard...the parking warden must have missed it!

you mean you dont normally?
Its bad Feng Shui, mate. (stagnant water bad; flowing water good (unless its caused by a river breaking its banks, and your worldly possessions are being carried away) )

actually come to think of it, I wonder if re-arranging my desk will help me make more money. I feel a poll coming on, and I havent looked at any porn today either.

EDIT: the poll would be about the configuration of our desks and the relative success. Thats what I meant to say!!

So, Arb., you normally litter our planet by dropping your parking ticket on the ground and think by defrauding the local authority or other owner of the car park of a parking fee you are being kind? :)

True kindness would be to vandalise all the parking meters thus doing the greatest good for the greatest number and also preventing the ground being littered :)

I'm straying off the track slightly..... but I see a kinda kindness...

Now, a few things with this..

1. How long can she hold that position? Popular answer, Long Enough ! :)

2. Perfect place to rest your pint, kebab and TV remote.

Any other benefits ?

Enjoy.

lol - i meant the floor of my car

I wonder if acts of kindness fits into the clever/dumb balance principle: ie; for every act of kindness, you also faciliate something not so kind.

Didn't the fact that of the loo seat and the wash basket being in the same place alert you to a potential problem?
