Does anyone know any +EV strategies for playing these? There doesn't seem to be any information on the web. Tried a few strategies last time I was in contact with one a couple of weeks ago and couldn't find anything that produced a remotely decent return. However there must be some machine selection criteria that work, and I can't be the first person to have wondered this, so anyone any ideas?

1) You have to find one where you can fast-feed the machine. Some machines will allow only 1 coin in pay at a time (ie: the coin feeder will not accept another coin or subsequent coins will not drop until a predetermined time has elapsed.

2) You will need a plastic or metal slot that will hold about 10-12 coins laying flat in a row, about a foot long or so.

3) Tilt the slot into the coin feeder so the coins slide very quickly into the game. With practice you can use the palm of your hand instead of a slot and maybe get 6-8 coins in.

The trick is to get all the coins or as many as possible to drop within the same sweep of the arm and near the middle. The coins near the edges fall into the "house" tray at the sides of the machine.

Disclaimer: There are no guarantees this will win more than you lose, but this technique is about as good as any. Remember the machines are designed to ensure you lose over time, like actual casino slot machines, but short term you can win.

I think there's too much work involved. Someone should devise some kind of machine or robot to do the coin pushing with a bucket arrangement for collecting the lucre. I imagine some bright spark out there in funland has already devised hundreds of different designs for such a purpose.

You'd probably be better off inventing some device that can bend up the collection shute and nudge some of the coins off the edge. Or if you want to be subtle a device that sends shock waves up the shute in a hope the coins fall. Just make sure you go in a big coat to hide what you're doing.

that robot statement gave me an idea:

Surely these machines have a maximum capacity for 2p coins - up to the point that for every one coin you put in you must get at least one out; well, if that is the case, does that not null the "gamblers ruin" scenario, as you know what your maximum drawdown will be (capacity of machine - number of coins already in the machine).

So you take your coins, and just keep plugging them in until you have more in your pocket than you put in the slot. As long as you have more than the maximum drawdown, you'll end up in the black all the time.

Right?

That's ridiculous. Only an amateur prepared to have drawdowns would contemplate the idea. Now with my robots not can I only fleece the machines I can also with my patented spud gun attachment hold the establisment staff to ransom and thus empty the tills. I have signed police statements to prove it.

you forget that coins that fall off the sides don't go out the chute for you to be collected - only the coins that fall down the centre do - so there's no way to guarantee you'll end up with more than you put it - in fact it's most likely you'll lose over time.

Ithought all coin's that fall off the edge go down the chute?

But even if not, you just have to put enough coins in to fill the "non chute but fell off" buckets with coins.
