Do you use AVG Anti-Virus? I hear an update has completely ****ed up some PCs such that users cannot restart Windows.

Dell by any chance? I used to have a very similar problem with my old vista laptop used to crash for no reason but became more frequent towards the end of it's life. As it died due to my throwing it across the room when I was angry rather than the error, my knowledge is limited.

From what I can gather it's something to do with some kind of corruption in the windows start up files (or in one of the graphics files in my case). It just crashes and stores all the start up data to the error dump over and over again filling up your hard drive.
A wipe and fresh install sorted me for a few months but the problem started again.

I'd suggest getting windows 7. It's a monumental improvement tbh.

Sounds like a recent driver update or you have a faulty bit of hardware. By the looks of the driver files it is video related
